I'm still using the GR II the most but I also own a GR IIIx for the 40mm FOV. On the IIIx I've landed on a recipe and I'm quite happy with as long as I'm not using the II and III side by side. This is what I'm using on the IIIx: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f7x9mK5jxNqcYKs.htmlsi=JLU79zCwv69Zbib_

Only jpegs store the color treatment of effects, raw is only raw data. So you can only get Positive Film color if you shoot jpeg. I however always shoot raw+jpeg so if I want to make adjustments to the jpeg I can use in-camera raw development. Hope that helps :)

Towards the end of the video I presented custom GR III settings (recipe) to better match the old Positive Film. But if you have a suggestion for a different recipe I'd be happy to try it!

@@JakobIglhaut A right - closer but not the same. Interesting, and interesting that the majority of GR III reviews don't mention this change in look, at least for Positive Film. To my eyes the GR I/II images are much nicer.

There are the older models with a small 1/1,8" sensor called GR Digital or GRD. This series goes from GRD I to IV. Although they also have their qualities they really feel like older digicams, lower Mp count and slow to operate. Then the GR was released and soon after the GR II. The GR and GR II are the first Ricoh cameras with an APS-C sized sensor and they are practically the same camera, except the GR II has WiFi capability. Get either of those if you like the Positive Film look I presented in the video. After that there is the GR III, still with an APS-C sensor and some technical improvements like IBIS, but with less image character. The GR III is the latest camera. When hunting for these online make sure you don't confuse the GR Digital II and the GR II or the GRD III and the GR III ;) Good luck!

Probably cuz most people don’t use it, and people serious about them want a higher quality flash

They took the flash away to accommodate a larger lens extraction motor on the GR III, allowing faster start-up

A very weird statement to me, because film has the highest dynamic range, and the "huge" DR of GRIII is just a very average one even in comparison to my much older but FF Sony A7II. Higher range just allows you to correct the larger exposition mistake, that's it.

If I remember I'll take a few comparison shots in the beginning of the new year. I never use that effect myself though

​@@JakobIglhaut That would be awesome! As far as I know this effect is not as popular as the Positive Film, though it still has a small but quite enthusiastic fanbase.

Good choice to hold onto the ii, I have the GR and only because i searched high and low and couldn't find ONE GRii, some times some local shops will list one and it'll be quickly snatched up while the GR and GRiii have plenty of second hand stock so I 'm guessing the GRii so the model that people want to hold onto.

In this video I had not yet messed with WB shifts and left it at default AWB. During later tries I had it set to M2,A4 but still wasn't all that happy with positive film on the III(x) so stuck to my GR I

I'm not aware of any changes. GR IIIx is exactly the same as GR III.

Partly maybe...but the difference predominantly stems from the way sensor output is interpreted and converted from raw to jpeg from the cameras image processor. The difference is thus rooted in software I believe. Newer sensors might also provide better signal to noise ratio and engineers are likely trying to squeeze every last bit of dynamic range out of those. I guess that results in flat looking images and by aiming for neutrality in colours they also seem more dull. With the new Positive Film effect they seem to have gone for that more modern look too...protect the highlights, save the shadows, don't oversaturate... Love my D700 by the way ;)
