I'm not a bowler, but it's obvious even to me that hanging the pins on strings would sometimes prevent strikes and making 7-10 splits and other behavior. I understand that pinsetting machines are expensive to maintain, but maybe a compromise would be to have most of the lanes use string pins, and have 2 or 4 lanes use pinsetting machines for pro competition, and casual bowlers and open leagues have to pay a premium to use those lanes at other times.
