Just need to tap one corner with a hammer. Right at the corner tip. Not on top of the glass. It will break with less busting. I work in a glass shop.

Thank you for the great tutorial. I am researching my first GOG mosaic to do with my daughter. I want us to be successful and the tip of supporting the glass, tape placement, and pre drilling the hangers are helpful. I dont think we will be using grout for our first project.

Tempered glass, aka safety glass, is required to be used in showers and low windows in the building industry. The idea is if the glass is broken it breaks up into thousands of pieces and primarily stays together. It is also used for automobile windows but I don't use that form. I have another video called "Preparing Tempered Glass for Mosaics" and it shows you how to break it. It's a lovely addition to the studio!

New subscriber here. Do you have a video on grouting? I got into mosaics a couple years ago, and basically gave up because I could not grout for the life of me! I do work with resin and I may try this with resin, but I love the look of grout. Thanks so much!

Grouting can be a bugger. I find the dryer the grout, the better. The next time I grout I will video it. Look up Sue Smith Glass Mosaics on YT channel and look for her grouting. She's excellent!

I think it’s awesome. Thanks for showing everything. I learned a lot. I do mosaics and grout. I do think that your grout was too dry in the beginning. That’s why it was so hard to get off. I would love to try the resin and make pieces like you, but the cost of the heat gun concerns me and then turns me off in trying your new method. Darn!!!! Disappointing. 🥺🐢🌮

Thank you for sharing! I learned a few tips 😊I also have some to share; 1. If the piece is small enough consider using something like a foil pan to catch the drip overflow as resin might seep through newspaper and cause damage to work surface 2. When propping the piece try parchment paper to put in between a lid and the piece as this will prevent resin sticking and for a easy removal of piece 3. Label the cups they can be used over and over…’a’, ‘b’ and ‘a & b’ this way there’s no doubt which resin to put in what cup 4. Tilt after pouring resin instead of using a stick as a stick no matter how gently used may resonate marks on the piece 5. When purchasing resin look for labels marked ‘UV protection’ as not all resin is alike and will yellow over time 6. For a 3D look of acrylic painted piece paint with acrylic after resin has cured. Curing resin to it’s fullest state may take 3 weeks or more

Great tips!!! Thank you so much!! Since I've made this video, I have ventured out and have added glass to the initial resin pour and then stacked the glass on top after it dries. I love it! I will attempt to layer the paints in between resin layers. I'm still just doing the one layer right now. Really appreciate your feedback!!!

Great video! I'm just learning gog. So if using larger pieces of glass, you put the glue just around the edges (to eliminate grout bleed), not spread the glue edge to edge across the whole back of the piece you're gluing? And will Mac glue dry transparent enough that you won't see the glue at all? I was looking at some pieces and although the glue had dried "clear" you could still see it in the light... thank you!
@stansburyartstudio1662
@stansburyartstudio1662 Жыл бұрын
the glue has two jobs: holds the glass in place and seals the edges so grout cannot get underneath. Yes, even though the glue dries clear you will still see the texture of it. The only way to avoid that is to cover the entire piece in glue and press out all the bubbles. As the piece dries, you will need to come back often to press out any air bubbles and clean the edges....but then you have to wait for all the glue to completely dry. It's a struggle!
