I watched one where they cut the bottom out of a lg soda bottle, removed the cap and stuffed a cut piece of foam spunge, then burried the bottle, sponge down. Depth was the depth of the root. Then fill with water.

This would have to be a cotton cord in order to work also gravity……the top of the bottle is too high.

This is a great referance tool as i am going away for a week, and have some peppers growing in small seedling pots. I am really worried about leaving them, and was worrying how to keep them alive. Looking at your video i think that the twine would be my best bet. Thank you

Try adding a small nut to ensure a slight weight that will take the string straight to bottom of water bottle & remain throughout?

Should be called very slow and obvious. Next time put the rope into a DRY bottle, then add the water to make your life easier.

Sorry, I tried last summer with natural rope but it didn't work so I tried with cotton for crochet also it's not working, so I tried with wool yarn still it's not working. Then the day before we leave for a week vacation I took some big Ziplock Bags, pour water into it & pricked (1 tiny hole) with thin needle at the bottom & place it close to the stem of my plants. Brilliant, they work well.

Como todo en el mundillo de las plantas; requiere mantenimiento. Al igual que reponer los nutrientes de la tierra, se cambia la mecha e ya. Uso unas de algodón de 10mm de diámetro para el riego, y me duran 6-9 meses. Durante las temporadas más cálidas y húmedas, se llena de algas a mayor velocidad por lo que es recomendable cambiarla una vez se sature. Pero quita bastante trabajo; el llenar un depósito y que se riegue todo de una. Que ir planta por planta. Y tradeoff es una hora de trabajo cada 6-9 meses para reponer las mechas. Sale a cuentas.

@@tonyhaltmar1383 Im not sure what problem you think you have solved. At the time of watching this video, I wanted to try this but it doesn't matter either way regardless as I have an automatic drip irrigation system!

@@JustinBlake35 I"m sorry, I meant to type "buy" not "but." If you don't mind, how does your system work? I am looking to keep a few pothos plants watered while I am away for work, usually a couple of weeks at a time. By the time that I return, they are on the verge of giving up the ghost. Thanks!

@@tonyhaltmar1383 they are extremely easy to set up. I actually got mine from temu for free! All I was required to do was, cut the tubing and place the sprinkler heads where I wanted them. I don't have mine on a timer, I just manually shut it on and off when I need to. But you can get timers to add to them!

I've tried this and many similar methods of drip irrigation but I always have the same problem. Initially, water drips at a decent pace, but after an hour or so, the dripping stops.

Hi Gordon, you must place the bottle in an horizontal position with the cap well screwed on the bottle, the cap must have an hole smaller than the string diameter so that the water don't drip out. You can incline the bottle of some degrees but with the base at a lower plan than the cap. The string must go along all the bottle length. The method showed in this video isn't good.

I am not sure if this forms more drip points but I saw another video on this same channel its title is :"Self watering system for plants using 4 different threads" where I've noticed that if you want water to drip faster you can use other type of threads like shoelace for example

Bel sistema, anche se purtroppo in estate c'è tanta dispersione per via dell'evaporazione sia dal collo della bottiglia che dallo spago. Già andrebbe meglio con un tappo bucato dal quale fare uscire lo spago. Resta comunque una interessante soluzione quando non si ha un sistema di irrigazione.
