My first Champions League final, I’m 13 years old, I live in Russia and I saw the beginning of this match on TV, a young boy who doesn’t know a single football player, I watched with my mouth open how these teams played, young Ronaldo would be like a superhero for me, in this day I fell in love with football, now I’m almost 30 years old, I’m still in love with this beautiful game

In terms of pure star quality and narrative(s), no final has come remotely close since. The 🐐 player, and baby goat manager going for a treble against the defending champions led by (for many) the 🐐 manager and the reigning Ballon D'Or winner. Both teams featuring multiple players who were already/would go on to become legends not just in their own league but in world football, some even Icons. Topped off by Andrea Bocelli belting uit the anthem... Glorious. Not even the running track at the Olimpico could ruin that 🤪. Wonder when, if it all, we'll see anything like it again. At the time this genuinly felt like the biggest game in years.

13 years ago today, footballing nirvana was reached 💔. And with 7 players that went through the youth system in the starting 11 as well. Other clubs might have been more succesful recently, none did it this way. Still the benchmark by which great teams that followed this one get measured.
