No ability to move the taskbar to the top of my screen so it's placed ergonomically where my eyes spend most of their time, no more full screen start menu to neatly organize program icons and keep my desktop clean so my ADD neat freak brain is happy, no folder file previews to quickly distinguish between different uniformly beige folders.. This is UX design from 2022 in 2024 that feels like some crap apple made in 2002. Massive failure to listen to your userbase M$, get it together.

This should be windows 11 vs cinnamon desktop (not Linux Mint).

I already switched to Linux and I love it. Linux is fun and runs great. Windows has just been pissing me off since Windows 8. They can keep their SpywareOS. Windows 11 is unusable garbage that is impossible to trust with my personal data.

6:45 Option + Command + 5 Brother, it's right fucking there. If I had to guess, I think Windows stole it from Mac if anything.

4:40 This is also COMPLETELY different. Those two windows are now full screen. Meaning that depending on your settings, the top bar and the dock will disappear, for example. And what's non-negotiable is that they will be on an entirely new desktop. They are not just two windows that happen to have the same height and width next to each other.

2:04 But 99% people will just press Command+Spacebar, and search the whole system, as it just works and doesn't require memorizing a different shortcut. (And it's just as fast)

6:20 On Windows you can also rename by "slowly" double-clicking the name. As in, first selecting the file, and then single clicking it and waiting ~0.2 seconds.

6:03 Except if it is an NTFS drive because you're dual booting windows. In which case there is no Recycle bin, and you get a warning.

5:44 Okay. Now try copying a file that takes longer than a second-which is _everything_ on the common person's machine. Mint does progress bars extremely differently, and IMO much worse. It's so easy to not notice that a process is in progress and fuck up the entire operation by trying to do something with it.

4:18 It is absolutely not fucking identical. Alt Tab on Mint flips through APPLICATIONS. On Windows, it flips through WINDOWS. That is a gigantic difference when you already have the muscle memory and want to work with multiple windows from the same app.

I never understood the point of these comparisons. People are _never_ apprehensive about these basic productivity tasks. There are a few sets of reasons: 1. Lack of product knowledge & lock-in You have used excel your whole life. You know that you can edit the same files with other apps, but they are still unfamiliar. You don't want to re-learn anything, even if the alternative would be way better. Or even worse: your company uses Excel. Sure, you can open and edit those files with other software, but you can be _never_ sure that you're doing it correctly. And your colleagues will look at you weird if you send them an .odt file. 2. Hidden difficulties for everything _other_ than the most basic basics of productivity: Say, you have a ritual. Every day you turn on your PC, put on your Bluetooth headset, and watch some Netflix in bed. Sure, you can do all that in Linux, but it is not the same. I for one can say that on my PC, Bluetooth doesn't automatically connect to paired devices when turning Fedora on. It does, when it wakes up from sleep, but then I'd have to change my habit of suspending my PC. 3. Oh well, fine. You try things out, but because of the above two issues, you decide to dual-boot with Windows. You do everything correctly, and both systems are working. "Oh, but what's that? File systems? What are those? Oh, so I have to choose between making it functional on both but with a _secretly_ non-functional Recycling bin on the linux side, or I can just make each system available to only one OS? Thanks, no thanks. I'm going back to Windows." 4. Even worse, now when you wanna switch between the two OSes, you have to re-pair your Bluetooth device every single time. That is absolutely unacceptable. You looked it up and there is a solution, but it's just way too daunting for a beginner like you. #4 is my personal pet-peeve. It's such a terrible issue that could be fixed by people simply talking about it way more, _and_ by just putting a fix in different distros' installers to check for an existing Windows system and copy those files (or symlink) over.

I would LOVE to switch to Linux Mint, but my Thrustmaster T300RS GT, TH8A, Bravo Throttle Quadrant, and generic PXN joystick all only supply drivers for Windows. But I'm so close to being pushed by Microsoft to dual-boot Windows and Linux, because as they say, Microsoft is the best advertiser for Linux

In my opinion, windows XP got a lot right with the user interface. Since then, there has been a proliferation of bloated menus, and the explorer tree with lots of "convenient" user folders that you cannot easily eliminate. I hated the tiles in the windows 10 start menu, and spent way too much time futzing with something that should just GTF out of my way. The windows 11 start menu looks like some improvement, but too little too late. All of these UI affordances have been around for a long time now, all it takes is designers who have some respect for the user's intelligence, and some subtlety and taste about UI design, as distinct from focus groups or marketing.

I really like the newer Mint 21.3, it's smooth and very responsive, it's a beginner Linux easy to use, Mint has come a long way, a few years ago it would be considered okay, but, IMO was borderline boring, today 21.3 has the response of Windows 10 and the user ease of XP, you can install programs from the menu, and if you are a gamer on the steam platform you can join the bata program and download most of your library games, GOG needs to catch up, but the more people use Linux it will have to give in to demand, but as of today GOG has very little Linux participation if your computer can not run Windows 11 or you just don't want it, I suggest you use Mint, they also have a live version you can try it before you install it. CHM Tech is correct it is as good if not better than Windows 11. Great video, which earned you a new sub.

Please do a video on Zorin OS. I see that distro is closest to Windows. Which do you recommend more for Windows type GUI distros, Mint or Zorin? I've heard great things about Zorin. I don't like or want to use code/command box typical of Linux.

good thing to know: the difference between the various Linux distros is only the package manager and the default settings and apps. what this means, is that you can get any distro that you want or that fits your needs, and still make it look like Linux Mint (which uses the Cinnamon Desktop with different defaults), as well as use the same apps etc etc, while having different core functionality.

I use it to check visible lag, and check task manager what consumes the pcs ram or cpu, then i go to start up to check the enabled apps and disable the one that causes lag on startup. I dont know why others do it but thats what i do since childhood, just to check if there’s a visble lag depending on how quickly it refreshes.

I can say one thing linux have issues with overall... Support high end PC's My 4090 runs like a GPU from 2007 on linux. Nvidia drivers arent really there Raytracing aint really there... and its janky with shaders.. When linux makes that better, then it might be great. Sure play medium settings works fine, but i did not get prenium parts for medium settings. Example: On windows i can play WoW 7680x2160p all on ultra and hit around 60 stable fps Linux: Oh boy i get unstable 40-60 fps in medium settings... Yes i dried both mint and ubunut and yes i did try both nvidia drivers 535 and 545 and both are equally janky. Also there is some slight artifact on the screen after i stopped play or tab out of the game... like moving black artifactial bars shimmering on the bottom side of the screen. After i made a clean install of win 10... and its night and day with gaming. I so want to love linux but right now for someone with an enthusiast PC linux is not really there, i fully repect it works great on lesser hardware.
