I have an SLB 300, which is great for travelling, however a better way to go is getting a Neville whitehead SASE (semi acoustic stand upright electric) bass I have a four string and five string from him, both are outstanding!! Other than a full on double bass you can’t go past either of these manufacturers.

How about the tone knob at the ub804 itself? How boost or flat did u set it at?

Hello, In my case, I have an Ibanez UB805 and I'm looking for strings to get that sound. Do you think I should use the 5-string Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flat Wound Bass Strings? I was also considering the Rotosound RS885LD Tru Bass 88s. Are both good alternatives? What would you suggest?

I tried Thomastik Jazz strings on my UB804, and they don't work for me, IMO they are great for electric basses, but are too floopy for an EUB, just my 2 cents. Great video, though

The right hand is key. It helps to play with the plucking finger ALONG the string - not across it, like when playing a bass guitar.

Most of the sound comes from the hollow body and the scale length of the strings. If you want an electric upright bass that sounds like an upright, get a Yamaha SLB 300. Also, pluck with the side of your fingers to make the sound beefier.

Beautifully produced. Thanks so much for the subtitling! I just bought one of these instruments, and getting an upright bass tone is a goal for me. I have a Zoom A3 which I will try for the modeling. I don't know about the term "IR" refers to though. I assume it's something like what the A3 does.
@WladekFoltynski
@WladekFoltynski 4 ай бұрын
Glad to hear that! IR stands for "impulse response" and it's a short aural information which emulates the acoustic response of bass cabinet or instrument's body. Zoom B6, Helix and many modern processors have the capability of loading custom IR's. There are also cheap, single IR loading stompboxes by Flamma (FS07), Nux or Mooer on the market.
@urbansocrates

@@WladekFoltynski So I guess the Zoom A3 does a similar thing, but with acoustic guitars (and acoustic bass). You can dial in modeling for all kinds of acoustic guitars. I'll try the URB model patch with the UB804 when it's back from the shop. Perhaps I'll have some success. Thanks again.

In the closing clip (black and white), I see that you added some dots to the fingerboard. I see there are some markings on the side of the neck? Do the markings between the E and A strings help?

A ta 6 to Maruszczyk? Jaka specyfikacja?

Trust. I had this revelation decades ago. Today, this video reminded me how important it is to trust and the comfort that is afforded as well as the pressure relieved when trust is constant. Furthermore; to be clear, it's.not "trust me I know what I'm doing", rather " trust that I know what will happen when I do what I'm doing." I digress.Carrt on gentle men.

Do początku lat 60-tych ubiegłego stulecia! W każdym momencie wiem jaki akord ogrywam. Im więcej zawiera ich harmonia utworu, tym łatwiej grać "solówkę", he... he... he... :P Pozdrawiam!

Hey Great Playing! I recently got a Fretless Jazz bass, I m really struggling to play in tune consistently. I look up how tutorials but it says play right on top of the lines. But when I do its out of tune any help or advice?
@WladekFoltynski
@WladekFoltynski 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I do not consider this video my personal best intonation-wise, but... I find the line system as an objective referral where the notes are exactly on the fingerboard. So: 1) I make sure intonation on the bass is set up perfectly (right in the middle of 12th marker, for this I'm using an edge of a credit card) - it creates an objective system I can relate to; 2) then I'll learn where each note is exactly, with relation to the finger placement - because each finger is different. It will differ due to position, angle, and each finger's point of pressure in relation with the fingerboard (amount of weight applied, bone, flesh etc.) 3) so, visually, to put the finger exactly on the line is a bad advice, because human fingers are not of thickness of a credit card. It's a personal thing for the player to find where the pressure point is for each of the fingers. So visually - from the point of a viewer - fingertips will be sometimes off the line, but from the player's perspective, for each of them the point of pressure should be exactly on the line. As the great Pau Casals taught - intonation lays in hearing the notes, seeing the notes (where do I put my fingers) and feeling the notes (how and where my body connects with the instrument). 4) there are various ways to learn it - I spent first hundred hours on fretless only on intonation exercises, without playing any music, only with tuner or drones (long-tones), just to learn how to place my fingers in relation to an (objective) line in each position. And I'm still doing lots of intonation exercises, without any musical context or metronome applied. It's a lifetime journey for sure. Check this video: about 4:00 mark - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i7aYZ8Wn3dWVioE.html All the best!
