QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you PLEASE review the book "Discovering the Mind of a Woman" by Ken Nair, specifically chapter 13 titled "I'm Just Weird" ? A man at church was handing this out to several brothers and gave one to my husband. I decided to open it to see if it was correctly telling him what I am thinking and this chapter made me so angry that I told my husband it was junk and why and, thankfully, he believed me and let me throw it away. However, I would be VERY grateful for you to do a video review of it (including with your evidenced based data regard woman having a "responsive" drive) that we could possibly share with the other men whom he has given it to and also for the folks in web-land who may be looking for reviews for this book. The author seems to have good intentions, trying to take the load of responsibility off wives and encourage husbands to educate themselves on how women think, but he fails miserably regarding $ex and I'm concerned that his apparent good intentions will mislead people. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi! It sounds like a terrible book, but it also doesn't sell very well. Right now we're focusing on books that have really high Amazon rankings, meaning that a lot of people are still getting suckered in. That doesn't mean that we don't agree the book is bad--but we're trying to focus on the big things first. But hopefully as we bring awareness to these issues (since they all seem to have very similar problems) people will be able to start identifying those problems in other books they see!

I don't think I want to try anymore. I wait on him hand and foot. We don't have children and is causing me such bad depression. But I can't tell him because he takes it as an attack and we end up arguing. He can keep his stupid porn and flirting with all the females. This will destroy me. I'm tired of trying. I don't even know why he is with me. I hate life so bad. I've tried so many times to be the best wife and person and it is all useless. He only thinks I'm being dramatic and tells me to relax. I'm sp tired of trying. I'm so tired of crying. I have needs but screw my needs. I hope that my desires just die so I no longer long for anything in life. I think it's the VR porn he is hooked on. I'm so sick of crap. I'm gonna have to even hide my tears and smile otherwise we get into argument. I give up!!!

Remember that this woman was a spinster until nearly retirement age and has NO CHILDREN of her own. I think she, for some bizarre and perverted reason, condones lawless, sinful, ungodly men. Does the following verse apply to the husband and elder in the church who is a drunk and a cheater? According to Nancy, no verse applies to this type of wretched man. ◄ 1 Corinthians 5:11 ► But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.

Where is Christ in this? If we read our Bibles daily it says over and over everywhere that we CAN’T be good enough and Jesus died for our sins. There’s NOTHING that any of us can do to earn heaven. The true GOSPEL is what is missing. We have ALL broken God’s 10 moral laws and we either recognize our predicament then accept the gift of salvation Jesus offers owe don’t. So trying to be good for any human is not relevant. Being thankful to God so wanting to know who HE is personally and how holy HE is will begin to transform us to be like HIM. The Church is supposed to be the people encouraging us to read and pray for ourself to know Christ personally! I pray for all to understand this true gospel not the false gospel that led to tragedy. Jesus did die so we will serve better Sheila. He died because we have all sinned and will die UNLESS we repent and put on Christ to have eternal life with Him.
@SheilaWrayGregoire
@SheilaWrayGregoire 2 күн бұрын
Your comment actually shows the problem. You seem to think that Christ only came to get us into heaven, like a "get out of hell free" card. But there's so much more to the gospel than that! Think about it: Jesus was declaring the gospel BEFORE he died. He told people "the kingdom of God is here" BEFORE he died. You have such a small view here! Jesus actually cares about us. He wants humanity to reflect the kingdom of God. That's what we pray for in the Lord's prayer--that His will be done ON EARTH as it is in heaven. If Jesus only came to get us into heaven, then this life has no meaning. But it does. And people matter to God. So do your part and be the hands and feet of Jesus, here and now! Because eternal life starts NOW, and we're part of the kingdom of God now.

Around 53 minutes in, really appreciated your balanced answer about how it's not just a choice between purity culture and hedonism. Ironically the way purity culture has been used to give power to men and to blame women is powered by obligation sex thus ends up being absolutely hedonistic. Using purity culture to control and use people is not treating sexuality as sacred.

I think a lot of times the help requires other healthy women and men to be aware of the signs of someone being abused. From personal experience when you’re in the middle of it, or when you’re groomed your entire life into one way of thinking, you think the problem is you - not your husband. It would be helpful for people to know to pick up on things being said - like “my husband won’t let me __”. I would have never said he was abusing me because I didn’t even believe it myself.

100% and victims often rationalize and justify their abuser's control and abuse. Like you said, they view themselves as the problem. Coercive control is very personalized and tailored to the victim so it's going to be difficult for outsiders to really understand what's happening.

Whatever people are saying in the comments about how you're endorsing sex before marriage is absolutely ridiculous 24:17. You're trying to have a nuanced view about engaged couples and how they should approach sex so that both parties enjoy it when they are married and that we shouldn't condemn them if they have sex beforehand. My husband and I did wait to get married before we had sex but we told each other after the fact that if we had had sex beforehand we knew that it would not have been wrong because we had already committed ourselves to each other spiritually and emotionally. I will say that it is wrong for people to have one night stands, go to prostitutes, or just have sex with their boyfriend or girlfriend when no serious promise of marriage has been made.

I get what you mean about the purity culture in you screaming. I have had so many talks with my mom about purity culture and the harm it inflicts and it took years to help her uproot the fear based teachings she was given that caused the purity culture scream. One thing to consider is that purity culture doesn’t prepare young girls especially in navigating relationships. Advice I received from purity culture advocates was to date for 3 months, get engaged, and rush to the alter in 9 months. Because that way there’s less time to “burn with lust.” This is very unrealistic for so many reasons but the biggest, most dangerous reason is that it allows so little time to get to know the person you are going to need to trust the most in the whole world. Especially if you follow the rules and are never alone with them it is impossible to actually get to know someone under those conditions. Abuse is so common and we should be arming against it by telling our young people what wholehearted, genuine consent looks like, what love-bombing is, what the abuse cycle looks like, what qualities should they be looking for in a romantic partner, what to do if they find themselves in a relationship with an abuser, not “don’t ever, ever have sex or God will be mad at you.” The fear tactics the church uses especially on young girls and the topic of sex is intense and it is hard to root out. But God does not give us a spirit of fear. Freedom from this fear is possible. So let purity culture scream out its death rattle as you heal from it.

Hi, Sheila I want to get your opinion how you understand the “House hold Codes” that Paul writes about. I am referring to where Paul uses “Head” in his letters to refer to marriages. I have noticed that there are two views on how to understand the word and to be honest I am having a difficult time to understand it.
@Himmiefan
@Himmiefan 2 күн бұрын
I'm sure Sheila can explain the egalitarian view of the word "head," and I totally agree with that view. A secular video, though, really helped me see the whole submission/headship in a healthier light than what conservative churches teach. First, everything must go back to a teaching of Christ, in my view, plus there is nothing about hierarchy and being the boss in the Ephesian verses. I watched this secular video and others to help heal my femininity since conservative Christianity teaches that it's subordinate, etc. This video explained that in general, femininity receives and supports, and in general, masculinity provides and that mentally healthy men in general like to do things to support their partner, in other words, their "leadership" is to provide and benefit, just like a husband's headship is to be like how Christ loves the church. So, under the umbrella of equality (submit to one another), wives receive and support while husbands lead by carrying out acts of service to benefit and support. Now, none of this should be used legalistically. This goes back to loving one another as Christ commands and touches on aspects of femininity and masculinity. Just my two cents.

The podcasts, The Literary Life Podcast and The Mason Jar talk about it. Ambleside Online is a free Charlotte Mason style curriculum online. And read John Holt and John Taylor Gatto, who were public and private school teachers. Sheila is right that homeschooling is for broadening your kids opportunities, and in my state my kids could take high school and college classes for free just like a public school student. I have listened to this podcast reviewing 'Love and Respect' and a few others... but never have I been as horrified and triggered as I have been listening to this one! I am a deconstructed Baptist (ABCUSA) myself and know of women in my family who have read and live by this book. Ugh. Women are dehumanized - regarded as slaves. That a woman wrote it... is just sad. She has bought into the most oppressive system imaginable - one that is a recipe for repressed anger and nervous system chaos that will slowly kill women, not to mention rob them of their humanity. Why does no one question why women have to suffer every moment of every day as men engage in narcissism and sin whilst their adoring, dutiful, soft-voiced wives care for them domestically and sexually? This discussion further exposes the patriarchal ROT in evangelical churches today. What kind of god would sanction such a life of endless suffering for his female children? There is nothing holy or Christlike about it. Of course men want to further this male toxicity and use the bible as their rationale. The truly rotten ones have it made!
