Brilliant Project although I am more partial to the typical "stock" color scheme. Nosecone needs to be on it's own chute so it clears free of the body. Especially with this much nose weight, as it tends to pull the booster down nose first. When the main deploys, the booster goes right through it and tangles. Also at this size, chute bags need to be used for proper deployment order.

Was this an R motor????
@spigalau
@spigalau Жыл бұрын
Yes. For this flight It was an 8" diameter 200000N-s R motor. The airframe has been designed and built to take a 10" S impulse. Previous flights have been on P and Q impulse motors.

@@N3onDr1v3 Going up is easy when you follow a plan - recovery is a bit more challenging as the weight of the motor casing makes the booster section quite hefty to deal with. The Nike is just a fun project for the team which helps pass the time.

You can order the motors from VT Propellants in Orini. They do a range of sizes - 38, 54, 75, 98, 203 & 250mm. This particular propellant was their Supernova blend (Bright White flame, Thin grey smoke, medium burn rate, high performance). The cost... sell a kidney or two.. :)

Did the casing look like it was an O-ring failure, or a casing pressure burst or a heat burn-through? I suppose an O-ring failure is the most common issue, correct? I just can't imagine working with that much impulse!
