The first episode opened with Sam opening the bar to start a new day… the last episode closes with him closing the bar… but he’ll be back the next day, and life will go on… a perfect ending

Nostalgia stacked on nostalgia: When FX first started up, it was basically early Nick At Nite, spamming the late 60's early 70's sitcoms like Nanny, Mrs. Muir and Family Affair. These shows become like the cemetery scene in 'Our Town' where each generation of the departed have their own town, eventually going so far back no one in the most recent group is sure of who they were.

Four years later David Wilkie would win gold in this same event. What was made it even more special was that it was the only gold won by a swimmer not from the US.

Bob Broder, agent for the show's creators, also made an uncredited appearance in the final moments of the show as the man who is told by Sam that the bar is closed. Growing up I had so many incredible TV shows. These days we get maybe one episode a year as good as these shows were. The Cheers theme will forever be sung in my house. Forever.
