My favorite musical moment I've ever performed was an eighth rest. I was in a drum and bugle corps and it was during the loudest part of the show. The entire corps went silent for just half a beat in unison before carrying on with the loud melody. We had practiced that one moment for hours and hours, to the point where it almost felt like an implosion, pulling back the sound we created before sending it back out. Silence done well can really be powerful, even when it's only a short moment.

It's everything there was, is, and shall be. Is it the mind of God? Does it mean we can't know God, and God can't know us? Is it because we're insignificant? We're not even the anthill that gets paved over by the road crew. It's like we're the molecules, or atoms of them. Maybe even smaller. Yet, I still wonder. Is it all there is? Is there nothing more? What's the point of existence? What is the meaning? What is the purpose? Will we someday exist as Gods, or go the way of animals? The way of all flesh? It's everything there was, is, and shall be. Yet the overwhelming majority of it is dead. That's what our body of empirical knowledge seems to reveal. Is there something beyond it, or other dimensions of it? Isn't the fact that we are aware of it, can comprehend it, and can imagine even more of it mean we are greater than it? Are we all the infinite, temporarily confined as severely limited individuals? How long can we live with ourselves though? I love you Mother, and Father. You are both infinite, and immortal now. My love for you both is infinite. My heroes.
