The video makes the run seem harder than it actually is because I skied it with horrible conditions. If you can ski runs off chair 23 and the gondola you will totally be fine. It's actually out of bounds and accessible via Cloud 9 or the Gondola. Google "hole in the wall, mammoth mountain," and there are very detailed articles regarding how to get there.

@@narrowskiing Is the hole in the wall even passable with all that snow? I haven't gotten out in to the Mammoth backcountry this season, but given the amount of snow at the resort I would have expected the hole to be filled in.

Definitely a novel ski experience skiing through that tube, and worth doing, but the "skiing" itself is more like picking your way down than scoring fun turns...unless you hit the bullseye-of-a-lifetime and catch soft, skiable conditions. IMO, a good one to cross off the list so you don't ever have to suffer through it again. Especially since - if you come off the top of Mammoth - you bypass some of the sweetest lines off the back of Dave's in order to stay high enough and make the tube. After doing HITW once, ever-after I've opted for Dave's Wave, and then straight down the fall-lines of wonderful pitch, and slaloming through the poked-up mini treetops, before you have to start traversing left back to Twin Lakes.

Man what I would give to make first tracks thru the hole.... Also can't imagine hole in the wall working this early in the season, obviously its been an epic Dec/Jan at the Long Valley Caldera ski resort!!!

@@narrowskiing First tracks would be potentially deadly, because it would mean you're the highest-risk skier in the Mammoth area (and that's saying something).

Definitely recommend! There wasn’t a storm for a couple weeks at the time this was filmed which caused the poor snow.

I've never seen it in real life but you can tell the way the snow is sluffing downhill, that it's pretty darn steep. The camera angle makes it look flat
