Sounds like the primary. But tbh common faults on the big twins are timing chain guides.
@timferguson86435 жыл бұрын
they act like a solid at high rpm why remove them doesn't make sense
@megastick93243 жыл бұрын
If you just whack your bike sometimes, like most, you don’t need them. They’re for high rpm applications to keep lifters from bleeding off and valves from floating. They are noisy AF when the motor gets hot, like an old shovel with solids. The vast majority of people only really whack the throttle occasionally, the very slight loss of top end HP would never be noticed anyway. If you race or are doing Dyno shoot outs, you would want everything available. I have a motor they came in, it’s for touring, not racing. When hot it sounded like a can of marbles. Since it only gets flogged once in a while, but ridden a lot, I took mine out for the quiet operation. It’s never seen rpms where they would be any benefit. Listen when he starts the motor toward the end and the lifters haven’t pumped up yet, that almost as loud as they are with the limiters when hot.
@diy-dadx30882 жыл бұрын
@@megastick9324 you are correct. This is why I removed them. Thank you for your response on my channel I had every intention of building this channel around my bike. I have nearly 50 hours of footage from repairs to rides. Never pursued it, wish I had.

Don't understand why you removed LT spacers. You just lost horsepower at higher rpm's. Why build motor and start going backwards? That's like putting in stage two on your motor and then deciding you need to put stock air cleaner back on. Was there some kind of issue?
@attributetovienna19823 жыл бұрын
They are a pain in the ass to adjust
@megastick93243 жыл бұрын
They’re moist AF when hot. If you don’t run your motor at high rpm a lot, you don’t need them. They’re for high performance/high rpm applications. Listen at the end when he cranks the motor and lifters haven’t pumped up yet, it’s almost that loud when the engine is hot with the limiters in it.

Those twin cams are naturally noisy, run hot, and make people wonder if theyre gonna blow up. Sounds to me like a happy healthy harley, check fluids. Check cam chain tensioner wear, tighten down any loose bolts found, and dont think too much into the noises. I will say a stage 1 will make it run smoother, cooler, and quieter.
@lil_shrip_art47065 жыл бұрын
Same here brother. 2014 FLHTK about 35K on it. Started doing it after an oil change at about 10K and never went away. Funny thing. If i ride mine so it is at temperature, shut it off for about 15min and ride again it sounds different, more muffled. So far I put in rocker lockers, tightened the side to side play on the rockers, opened and looked around tensioners/cams and change the lifters and push rods - no difference. Last season I put in a baker compensator since my old one developed a clunk but it did not fix the high pitched hum/noise at all. Crank case and primary oils make a bit of a difference but hardly enough to get excited about. I currently use Royal Purple in the case and Formula+ in the primary but tried HD dino oil, Amsoil, Syn 3 Rotella T 15-40, transmission fluid in the primary etc. Let me know if you find the cure. Good luck and safe riding.

Same here. I thought I found it last winter when started to tare down and found a loose intake bolt. I was so far and as it was hard starting as a high comp 103 with no ACR, well to make a long story short it now is a 110 stage V. New cams, cylinders heads...noise still there so was not the intake and yes driving me nuts. Going to pull primary apart and next is to check the case. Also concerned maybe tranny input bearing. One expert thought is was the throttle body, but this also is changed to a larger bore. I have been told to try adjustable push rods as maybe a loose lifter.

@diy-dadx30886 жыл бұрын
Jeremy James not exactly. But found metal in engine. Oil pump lots of wear pistons and cylinders scratched up. So with metal going throughout motor i have completely disassembled and rebuild. Hard to say the exact culprit. I do not believe that the bike was serviced properly before I got it. 😒Bought asis and put 1200 miles on it. Noise started at only 500. Replaced compensator and primary bearing. Installed rocker lockers. Did not fix. Cut open the old oil filter and found the metal.

@@diy-dadx3088 My 96ci FLHX makes the same sound. Did you find the culprit yet? A tech at JP Cycles said to use a stethoscope to locate where the chirping is happening (may want to use earplugs if the engine is running). Without a stethoscope, I found the chirping to be located around my Transmission and Clutch area when idling so more inspection to come when I source a stethoscope.
