do you have the torque specs for the bolts above the two differential nuts? (so the shaft comes out easier). I have 1999 chevy Silverado 1500

Did you ever get it figured out? I’m struggling with the exact same thing. Broke one retainer ring trying to get gear over shaft. Took a retainer ring, gear, and shaft from a donor rear to make a second attempt and I’m still having the same trouble. I saw someone say somewhere that the retainer ring can get worn and won’t allow the gear and shaft to slide together, but I’ve only seen one person say that. I’m stumped, and I’ve been building cars since I was a kid, 47 now

I think a lot of people having issues with the "pounding out" method are doing this on a newer vehicle during 2004 model year or one with a 9.25 inch axle. They changed the design around this time. You can look up OEM axle shaft and see the axle shaft where the retention ring is held is different right around 2004 or so and they list a 1st design and a 2nd design. The newer vehicles have a snap style ring that sits at the axle shaft and axle housing that you aren't supposed to pound out (Like in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m6ufmJCHuuDOemg.html ). If you do you will damage the ring and the washer as you trying to hammer that ring past the washer, that holds it together. The older model trucks, like shown here, have a c style clip inside the gear, that you cannot access with a tool when it is assembled, that is designed to be pounded out. Sometimes, that clip comes out with the axle.

Mine did not have the dust shield (GM part #15588337) and I don't see it on your assembly in the video? Are these sometimes deleted or do you think it was previously removed?

The one part I wanted to see you didn’t show, if you leave the cam and crank timing chain and gears intact it’s technically not a tear down it a partial tear down

I've a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 not taking fuel. The pump clicks off every few seconds. I've heard the charcoal canister is the culprit. Is this correct, and would replacement be the same ? You guys made this look easy.

It's the essential part of the equation when determining caliper clamping force. Did you know a 4 piston caliper has about the same clamping force of a "one sided" two piston caliper if all the pistons are the same diameter.@@AutoEclinic

Great car when they run but nightmare to work on. lots of aluminum and plastic, prone to leaks, fire, frequent maintenance, BCM and security issues make it almost undrivable after 20 years, deceptively plush and fast so you want to keep it running but the headache and heartache of troubleshooting every problem adds up to collective years of cussing.. I'll never own another Chevy or GMC unless it's a '96 pickup
