You are the second person on YT to say to point the mushroom side of rotor to #1 on a distributor install on Mopar. Can you explain why? I'm at best a parts changer and want to learn. Thank you.

Because you need the rotor to point toward the #1 on the rotor not the engine because you’ll be 180* out.
