I saved this video to show people why they should not try to fix junked air compressors.

Hey, how’s the crosstrek holding up? I’m curious if you’re going to do a follow up on how the transmission is holding up. Been doing a lot of reading up on the 2023 crosstrek manual, the gearbox is just my concern if the torque is going to be too much

Dude. I'm getting ready to swap my oil-guzzling 2012 XV (crosstrek)'s FB20 with an FB25, and I'm reading and watching as much as I can beforehand to just cram the knowledge in. Even though this has been excruciating for you to to this point, I want you to know how much I appreciate you posting the process. I've been learning a lot.

Its not a good idea to "delete" these tgv flaps on the na 2.0 or 2.5.. You will loose most of your low end and gain nothing on top end and will not be able to tune it to make up for it.

Have you had any issues with your front CV shafts after your lift? I’ve gone through about 4 in five years.

I pulled the rubber mud flaps that come stock on it under the front fender off. In fact pulled all those rubber flaps underneath in the rear as well. Slightly rubbing only on full lock in the well, but not significant to be of any concern. On Methods 502 wrapped on Geolander MT 215s. I’m driving a 2013.

What makes you need to tune it during the swap? Wouldn't you just need the 2.5's ecu?
@NickBEADG2 ай бұрын
I coulda told you when you were doing the leak down that the timing was off lol. Sweet swap though!

That’s right …..keyway on crank faces straight down at 6 o’clock and cam gear arrows face each other on intake and exhaust on both sides then put on timing chains sequence to line to color , also make sure on disassembly rotate the cam gears with belt strap so lobes are not applying pressure on valves. Cam gear should rotate freely 180 degrees , man all that work …. The biggest thing is time to clean and 3 bond everything… . Great video …. I build these as a hobby

If you are going to repair one of these, you should probably start with a connecting rod kit which includes the piston and gaskets. Oilless compressors use a piston with a teflon ring in contact with the cylinder. If the cylinder gets scored, it will take forever to fill and often overheat. Good find on the weak breaker.

Informative, but would have liked to seen a fb16 in the mix and also an engine block comparison.

There is no FB16 in the states.

as they say, the struggle is real. was there no 2.5 from a Crosstrek available? BRZ engine? Almost easier to buy a 2.5 Crosstrek, but you lose the third pedal....

You have to surface before you use it anyway. Nothing is going to go together perfect. If you know manual machining processes this will make sense to you. It's called blueprint

You know what that disassembly espcially you did was really useful thank you, especially for cleaning. I am trying to get to the middle lenses on the pieces themselves cause their smeared or bubbled with something and I want to see if it's cleanable.

This is honestly cool. Would this same engine fit in a 2023 cross trek? In x amount of years and the engine blows or just is beyond saving, I might consider this

I had a little 3018 with a tiny 300w motor and it engraved ally good. these small machine are not strong enough for singe flute above 3mm dia, so a 3mm two flute is a good choice also don't use the middle of the bed, use close as possible to the side to gain more rigidity with aluminium it likes to be cut a hard/rough as possible so it does not go soft, so with that machine cut at about 200mm pm at about 8000 rpm remember rough cut, if not then you get the skipping affect, and this happens when the speeds are to slow against a to fast of a spindle speed so the ally is being pushed from the cutter until it forces itself past another thing that works far much better, Is adaptive cutting I use Visual Cad/Cam not cheap but worth it or there is the free Fusion 360 but it is hard to start off with so I would get some software that has the adaptive feature, you will be amazed of what you can do. Im sure you will get their :)

You are incredibly talented. So much knowledge. This is hard to watch. Have you opened the factory service manuals, any other sources on oem procedures…..there is something about factory manuals that if read correctly provide specs, steps, tests, torque values…..

When i ordered my wheel base during black friday, i added the qr2 adapter with the QR2 lite. I first installed the qr1 metal, had zero play no clunk, perfect fit. Swap to the qr2, huge flex and rattle. I was kinda speechless.

It sounds like the timing is off. It reminds me of a old car that I had that the distributor kept skipping a tooth, had to scrap the car. So I think the crank sensor wheel and position sensor are wrong for each other. I will see in the next video if I am right. :)

Inverting the wheelbase/plate like that actually gives you *less* leg room...far less. ASR4 looks great; I ordered the ASR6, waiting for it to arrive... Congrats on the baby in 2022👍
