Is there a driver on the green locos?? if so where!?! 😲 ETA ok seen a close up now and i can see the windows which I couldn't see on this video

They do have one thing in common with Ferrari's though. Not beautiful or ugly by design, but when they excel in doing what they are designed for, they will become beautiful. What an impressive piece of machinery !

Beautiful locos, I have to admit. Last year, I was in Třebušice in person. Since I'm a Czech from Prague, I do not have it far away. The conditions these locomotives work in are tough, I mean REALLY tough. But beautiful. They bring the coal from the mines to coal processing plant (úpravna uhlí Komořany) and then distribute it all across Czechia and Europe. It is a shame that these locos will not last for a long - these mines are closing soon (I think the ČSA mine is currently at the process of closing).

Convex electric locomotives were also built in Japan🇯🇵 around World War II, and are now mainly used for switching operations. However, this is the first time I have seen a locomotive with a three-part body structure, including the bonnet section. My question is: it looks like a folded pantograph is also attached to the side of the large frame carrying the pantograph.

As far as I know, the side pantographs are in use in coal loading area - if the coal is falling into cars from the top, you can't have the trolleys in the way. I remember seeing it in an old movie about these machines.

interesting how USA has freight rail completely figured out and dominant and euros are hundreds of years behind. visa versa with passenger rail
@petermikus23633 күн бұрын
Well to be honest it's an old loco meant to specifically work in and around coal mines. It's designed to run on badly laid and secured track (so the track can be disasembled and quickly moved.
@AndreiTupolev3 күн бұрын
🤨 How much freight mileage in the US is electric hauled? And come to that, how many freight trains derailments are there typically per year in Europe compared with the US? Are you basing your assessment of European rail freight solely on this specialised coal hauling system?
@MrToradragon3 күн бұрын
I wouldn't say that in Europe we are that much behind the USA in terms of freight train technology, well maybe beside automatic coupler, but there is some proposal to remedy that by DAC, but I suspect that it will not go exactly according to plan and we will see, for decades, DAC compatible Schafenberg coupler on old carriages and locomotives. The main issue is the state of te railways, lack of electrification, lack of second track and short stations that prevents operation of trains up to 750m. And of course lack of capacity on certain parts of the network. For example KFNB from Přerov to Ostrava is significant choke point on European rail network that can't be reasonably circumvented.
