Brighton buildings all painted in colurful colours gives the town life.defiently not in depression. My town southend on sea is run down.all brand named shops have gone.we just have indian cheap shops and cheap plastic mobile phone covers over priced. There are not ships to but gifts for people unless its electrical. I can bear going to my town.

14:00 as a long descendant under Niall and Norse Irish, and my ancestors held this ground and others around Ulster, with this area named Derry then, I will refer to it as Derry.

13:05 stop it, it was Derry long before they came along and changed it to Londonderry. But since they say it is now in Northern Ireland, go ahead and call it Londonderry, but it was always ORIGINALLY Derry.

I lived in Whitley Bay in the 70's, my father used to take us to spanish city to play in the rides, kind of a micro Disney park.Park. in the 90's used to go drinking in the pubs each time I visited my relatives.

How nice to watch this video and all the information you shared. 40 years ago I lived there (close to The Beacon School) as an au-pair. Thank you for taking us with you on this walk.

I visited Hebden Bridge as much as possible it is the most wonderful place that I have been ever. The only thing that's upset me was the new town hall which is without any architectural merit at all. It is amazing that that this bland place got planning permission.

Thanks for this fascinating video. I studied english new towns concept when I was in architecture school, in italy, during the middle of the 80ies of last century. So I'm really surprised and sad about it too, to see whats is nowdsys this city which were presented to us as a real modern and reaviling concept of architecture in service to people for their better life reality and places to live in. ......

“…..and on your left ladies and gentlemen you will see the outlet pipe where sewage is discharged into the lake thanks to a chronic lack of long term investment by greedy privatised water companies who paid out billions to foreign investors. This approach to water was championed the Conservative Party who believed that if you privatised anything it would automatically make it better……” 😢😢😢😢

Well, I watched the video and I still think Leicester is a hideously ugly place, full of dilapidated pavements, shoddy buildings and a completely mental traffic system introduced in the 1960s. Its history is no more interesting than many other cities. I was born in Leicester and will no doubt die in it. But I don’t love it.

William Wyggeston is pronounced “Wiggy-stun”, not “Wigston” which is a village outside Leicester. The grammar school was called “The Wyggeston School for Boys (later girls had a separate grammar school) and is still known to us older Leicester residents as “The Wiggy”. Our tour guide is obviously not a local man.

I am born and raised in Northampton and love the place ( apart from 18 months ish in Cumbria ) - fire seems to have played a big role in the changing face of the town even now Bridge Street is closed due to the many incidents of fire in the old Angel Hotel, very sad to see. I am off to check when the Lift Tower was built because at 25.50 you state opened in 1982 - pretty sure it was built before that date!! as the Express Lift Tower. Great walkabout many thanks. Will be watching your York walk later today. Apols you are correct - Wikipedia quote: The National Lift Tower (previously called the Express Lift Tower) is a lift-testing tower built by the Express Lift Company (a lifts division of the General Electric Company (GEC)[1]) off Weedon Road in Northampton, England. The structure was commissioned in 1978 with construction commencing in 1980 and was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 12 November 1982. It has been a Grade II Listed Building since 1997.[2] The tower can be viewed from Arbury Hill, the highest point in Northamptonshire. end quote. I was confused because I remember visiting the social club of Express Lifts around the early 1970`s. Thanks again for the memory jog.
