4:09 one of my favorite shots in any game ever. It's just so genuinely cinematic, and yet so simple. No one else could have pulled off using a purely black background in a game like this and made it feel so purposeful. And thematically it totally works. You are at the climax of Disk 1, wandering into the literal darkness from this point on. Especially the shot of Snake just standing in the dark, looking over his shoulder back at Otacon, it feels like a frame from a manga like Berserk or something, it's just so memorable and iconic.

Those polygonal graphics would naturally keep me from feeling the sentiment, but that voice acting and soundtrack really deliver. I've never played those games but their story and characters look so good. Liquid, dare I say, is already my favorite antagonist and I haven't even started playing yet.

MGS1, along with MG1&2. Those games are extremely pivotal to the entire story of Metal Gear Solid down to the very ending, and Phantom Pain even leads directly into the plot of Metal Gear 1. Yet the most playable version is still just an emulation of a console that no one has ever heard of...

All from the games, the dialogue is amazingly wacky but that’s why it’s such a great contrast for the series is so full of charm and feel good moments amongst the other dark themes and brutal moments
