@iainbrookes Hi Ian The Tower on the island was built as a marker beacon to ships, and was erected on Horse Isle in 1839 by Hugh, Earl of Eglinton, at the instance of the celebrated Artic explorer, Sir John Ross. Up until about 1965 there was a flashing red light on top of the tower. Most of the incidents concerning ships foundering on the island was cause by bad weather, and only a few through neglect.

The Dallas from New York was in ardrossan in 1938, although I dont know the name of her sister ship

good stuff good vid,.,a got a framed photo off the dallas and her sister ship in the dock ,its black and white ,.me dad brought it home when they knocked one off the buildings down back in 1985,.

Some great old pictures that make a great slide show. While A Townout Pity would not have been my choice of music but Eddie Reader's version hits the spot and it all seems to work brilliantly.
