Never ever finance solar. Set yourself up for success by living by the mantra: "With the exception of a home mortgage, if I can't afford to pay cash for something, then I cannot afford the something. " This includes vehicles, boats, RVs, and things like solar. Also, if you want to go off-grid, microinverters are not for you. If you want to still have power during grid outages, the microinverters are not for you.

The system has always been designed to not benefit the people, it makes you believe that you're saving but in reality you're not. The greedy always make sure they always win. 20% for the consumers and 80% for them. Consumers are easily drawn by the sweet but complicated illustration of savings. For the price of the PW or even EV's it is hard to justify the savings when you apply the numbers. People forget wear and tear and the lifespan of the unit. One of the biggest scam of electric companies to date.

I am sure this young man means well, but he is mistaken, about PPA's in a PPA the tax credit goes to the person financing it, giving them to ability to give a lower payment and save more money. If the person makes less than the standard deduction they can not get the tax credit. Most people who are self sustaining make less then the standard deduction amount and can not get it anyway, so are usually better off taking the PPA. On problem with a PPA or other TPA is that usually you are stuck for 5 years making it harder to sell your house. They cannot pay it off for 5 years. But after the 5 years, usually it is cheaper to buy it out rather than if you were purchasing the system because after 5 years it is a discounted price. Most likely if you are going to turn around and sell the house you should not put solar panels on there unless you really need the tax benefits. The problem is the the buyer buying the house will not get the tax credits and so you cannot get the value of the solar panals out of the increased value of the house due to the solar panels. One large benefit from them is that they solar company now are on the hook for repairs. A retired couple / person who lives on Social Security will pay no taxes and cannot afford expensive repairs, would be better off by doing a PPA or TPA. As they would have lower payments.

Watch this video before going solar to learn what risks you face. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jcd3d6uhmLCvdn0.html Solar is not regulated in some states, especially in IL where there are no consumer rights with solar, where the industry suffers from scammers with unethical business practices that are allowed to continue to prey on an unknowing public with complete impunity.

Everything in your home may use AC, but your bateries don't... if you have an issue with a micro inverter, you would need to get up on the roof to fix it. There's tradeoffs there. Those inverters are going to be hot and exposed to the elements up there, too, and probably won't last as long. I don't know if those tradeoffs are worth it. I think it's better to run the panels straight to the solar charge controller, then hook the batteries to either one or two inverters. That way, you're only converting the energy once. The most cost-effective is an all-in-one system that has the solar charge controller and inverter in one system. If you buy all the components yourself and pay someone to hook it up, you still have the manufacturers' warranty. This way, they can't overcharge you for the components either. I'd do the research and look at reviews for what you want. I certainly wouldn't buy a system from an installer. I have hooked up a small mobile system for myself, and I didn't have any issues. I was running 400w to 700ah 12v batteries. I was able to run my mobile fridge 24/7 in my van. I didn't have to worry about inverters, though, as everything ran on DC. If you use mobile appliances, there's no need for an inverter. I wish there were more options for DC devices for use with solar systems. AC isn't necessary for short distances.

ALL of these systems from third parties are all absolute ripoffs, period. This is a market that is easily taken over by actual real solar systems that can make home owners truly independent, BUT Insurance, HOA's and local ordinances turn it all to crap. Ask anyone who has put together an off-grid system not subject to these restrictions. True cost is moderate for a full self sufficient system for an average American home (including batteries) and would make up half to less for one of these systems sold by a third party. Which means they are massively greedy, have huge overhead, or both. I think both.

SunRun a company one should run away from. Extra un-needed costs. I bought the house three years ago, and was told by the SunRun rep who came out and looked at the house that I had to replace the roof because it was probably the same tar paper from when it was built in the 70s. After they did it, a neighbor told me that it had been replaced a few months before I bought the house. I was told I had to move the A/C condenser to the other side of the house, for Code issues (too close to the fuse box) and because I would be getting three batteries, since I told the sales rep my sister is on a ventilator and I need to ensure that I have backup that would last 48hrs so I could arrange for her to get to a hospital if the power was out for more than 24 hrs. First power outage we had the battery (only one not the three they charged for) lasted less than four hours. I ended up having to hand bag her (Hand held ventilation bag) for almost six hours over night until the Sun came out in the AM and her machine came back on. The caring folks at SunRun who told me I would not need the gas backup power once I had the Solar in place could not have been more rude when I complained. I told the Coordinator that I have Rescue dogs, they had history of abuse so wanted at least 48 hrs advanced notice when work would occur so I could board them. Nope showed up at 7AM started pounding on the roof without any notice. Frightened dogs and poop all over as well as regression. The paperwork for the work and the load through another bad provider (Goodleap) was thick enough to choke a horse, when I wanted to read through it the Notary they sent kept saying, "SunRun is careful to make sure you get what you agreed to." Never got the copies that I was promised, and when I questioned SunRun over not getting three batteries, and why the Electric Company drains the battery to less than 50% each night they said, Oh we have you agreeing to that on a recorded call. I've got a fairly good memory, and with the issues I have with my sister, I would not have agreed to it.

Why can’t anyone talk about true cost per foot of just solar and equipment cost. So many contractors have these crazy prices and it’s because the consumer feels ok with it because of the 30% gov tax credit. So if your over paying and paying cash Your contractor really got the tax credit This is the most crooked group of people I have ever seen !!!

I have an oversized PV system and all I get are credits from my utility, any kWhs still in my account after 12 months are "gifted" to my utility. But I knew up front that no matter how high-tech my PV system is (Enphase IQ8A Inverters) they stop working if the grid goes down. All that expensive gear sitting and doing nothing. So the main reason I want to add some ESS is to keep our PV system producing power and let the batteries power the house during an outage. And while I was thinking of getting a GENERAC 24 kWh generator like all my neighbors who spent over $22K per install. But given the incentives I could get 2 PW2s installed here in Illinois for about $16K. For us it's not about saving or even making some money is the safety and security of my family. Being a self-sufficient "ISLAND" during an outage for us is PRICELESS. Plus we are 72 and had some disposal cash to invest in our home.

#1 Solar is not easy or cheap, it's not cost effective or even in the long run, if you live in a regular house in the city or on the outstretched areas, you have to get separate insurance and there's a good chance you're insurance company is going to drop you. Especially in Florida and California, If you don't have a victron or solark system or Tesla you have junk it's not going to last and it's going to completely fail costing you thousands more, Rapid shutdowns are an NEC requirement now for grid installations, and the micro inverters they try to sell you DON'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP.. THERE A RIPOFF, SOLAR IS A SCAM AT THIS POINT, in the future it will work, but the industry is so scattered in organizations you need to investigate the company or installers before you agree to anything, most Solar batteries are expensive and made out of B batteries used taxi units. Join the Facebook groups and ask for recommendations of honest companies and installers.

Crazy how the internet workk.... thank you for ALL you have said in this. I graduate HS in 1996. The ONLY reason I passed Geometry II was because I was wise enough to request changing over to the other teacher 1 month into the school year. He was the football coach, and I was one of 2 out of 30 that weren't varsity athletes. He taught us in the brand new fancy Apple computer lab we had. At the end of the year, both classes were required to pass the same test to standard.... both classes were nearly indistinguishable. Hooray for a smarter than average Football coach who wanted his athletes to just as well as everyone else!❤

Please help explain this to me. In the billing period of 5/15-6/16, my solar produced 939.4 kwh. On my Xcel utility bill, it says total delivered by Xcel: 736 kwh, total delivered by customer: 390 kwh, total net delivered by Xcel: 346 kwh. If my solar app is telling me I produced 939.4 kwh, shouldn't I have a credit for this month, instead of being charged $60+? I have a tiny 1 story home with 14 solar panels.

Don't expect shyness to save you with your concept of goodliness internally. Record the conversation, Get the word for word promises in PRINT and take their picture at the same time. Be prepared to be truly unkind later, and persue way more than your money back---unless your life and time come really cheap. Period. Stop beliving in supr-heros. Most "salesmen" ...sell. Or it is a hobby. That is what "professional" tends to mean to employers--because few will "emjploy workers" to loose money. That is philanthropy. Look up spme words sometimes. Or depend on luck.

Micro inverter vs main unit….there is a negative to micro….they care harder to get to as they are on the roof, therefore to change one I would need scaffolding where’s as my inverter is on the wall in my garden. Accessibility is harder for fixing or replacing

@neverbenbetter this is another good post, but there are some outdated information in the interview. For example, the analyses of microinverters benefit vs. A central inverter is inaccurate. SolarEdge is one of the largest manufacturers and sellers of central inverters. SolarEdge implemented an optimizer on their central inverter over two years ago (way before this post). The optimizer eliminated the issues of a central inverter. Conclusion, microinverters WERE superior over 5 years ago. Microinverters are less efficient than an optimized SolarEdge central inverter. Also, saves homeowners money. If you want a deeper explanation and proof of my statement, reach out to me anytime. I am launching a series of posts in my new channel, Colorado Energy Experts. Very clear, and consice facts to help everyone make the best decision. 🙂
