I think you are missing a small point. If a president doesn't do what they said or does a bad job because they dont have to run again. What will that do to their party? So yes, they could do nothing but their party would suffer.

This was my thesis for this essay: Democratic regimes are better at maintaining sovereignty than authoritarian regimes in a country because the democratic process gives the people of the country as a whole power, hence, increasing that government’s legitimacy. In authoritarian regimes, the government needs more power to maintain sovereignty as their authoritarian governmental actions lessen their legitimacy in the eyes of the people. What do you think?

My own example: Authoritarian regimes are better at retaining sovereignty because they have a better control over their citizens and have stifle dissent. Russia: The country runs a censorship campaign and stifles reporters who go against the government's wishes. The authoritarian regime's conquest to surpress free press is working, due to the statistically high domestic approval ratings that Vladimir Putin enjoys, despite lower ratings outside of the country. As such, Russia's sovereignty remains unchallenged due to the government preventing any knowledge of its activities from being known to the people by exercising authoritarian powers. China: The country owns the media and has complete control over the press. The Communist officials in china can choose what to release to the public, and what to withhold. Albiet the chinese government doesn't lie all the time, they can apply a bias to the news network that most chinese individuals recieve, usually very patriotic and glorifying of the chinese government. Most of the news and messages are moreover patronizing, resulting in most chinese individuals being nationalistic and trusting of chinese officials. As such, there is no room for dissent to form, because the motivation of nationalism trumps any rumors of criticism. As such, by exercising authoritarian powers over the media, the chinese government can retain a strong hold on its sovereignty.

I believe this year, Iran and Nigeria are the units excluded from the test
