I do agree lagoons definitely are better, but unfortunately the issue is most industrial facilities do not have enough real estate for this sort of treatment.
Something tells me this isn't geared towards the diversity crowd as you guys appear to work for a living. ;-D

TSS stands for Total Suspended Solids, or the amount of solid matter that's in the water. DO stands for Dissolved Oxygen, or the amount of oxygen in the water that's available to the bacteria that digest waste.

So...are you able to harvest and sell???? For Compost or Animal feed??? I just learned what a SUPERIOR Animal feed it is...Dry is 40% protein and you could make/ sell for pellets??? Or... Allow people to harvest???

Well, 9ne 9f the issues you must deal with is this plant removes all impurities from the water and hold onto it...if it dies it releases it back to the water, so it should be tested before ANY use for animals or humans...

I've got a 30 year old lagoon here. We recently measured and found an average of 12" to 18" in most parts of all 3 cells. The first cell is about 5 feet deep, and the third, I believe, was around 10 feet. Is this a situation where we need to have the sludge removed, or can it still be treated out? We do have an I&I problem that I acknowledge should be fixed first, but, with our very limited budget, we can only do a little at a time and have to choose our projects very carefully. Any advice would be incredible!

How much sludge you can reduce in place will depend on what percentage is volatile (digestible) vs nonvolatile (sand and grit). Adding mixing and aeration with our Ares Aerator will stir up the settled sludge and suspend it in the water column where the dissolved oxygen supplied by fine bubble aerators can digest the volatile portion. If you're looking for down-and-dirty methods of postponing dredging, we've got an hour long webinar about in situ sludge reduction: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j92jg9WltraRZI0.html. A couple of methods: drag chains behind a boat to loosen up sludge and return it to the water column; or try bioaugmentation in the summer. You will eventually have to dredge out the nonvolatile portion, but you can kick the can down the road a bit. If you'd like advice based on your specific facility, reach out to Ben Shakman at [email protected]. Thanks for your question!

Farmers need to tell the EPA to "tough it out" and farmers should go ahead and put whatever quantity of manure or fertilizer they want on their fields. Its time the unconstitutional administrative state ends.

Manure and fertilizer contain nutrients and we're always trying to get more nutrients in our diet. I say spread that shit everywhere all over the place. Put it in my backyard, front yard and on top of the house. Give me more nutrients!

We just finished our 10 year leak test. We did not have the blowers on for the past 2 weeks while the test was being conducted. I turned the blowers back on this morning. WHOA! Needless to say, I have left the lagoon area for the day while the lagoon gets back on track. It is brutal out there right now.

I am installing a harvester and biogas digester for my on-site lagoon to create sustainable CH4. The past 30+ years have been a struggle to find the best management program for our Duckweed issue and it appears the solution is just around the corner. There's a CO2 energy company in New England that has been greenhouse growing and burning Duckweed for 10+ years. Thanks for posting this information~!
