Funny you’d mention James Brown because they were friends. When Elvis died, James Brown went to the viewing at Graceland & he had to be removed several times where Elvis was laid out because he was so overcome by grief. This is a great video because it shows his #1 song that had just come out in late 1969 and was performing not only the song but also his own performance with it. “In the Ghetto “came out too which he sang in 1970 live in Vegas. A popular tune to this day. Hint.. hint for a request. 😂😂❤❤

I’m not sure if you’ve done “ In the Ghetto “ A very subdued Elvis for a song he could relate too growing up in abject poverty. I’ve seen Black reactors and others literally have to stop the song and take a moment because they relate to it so much they get overcome. The words are so powerful. It’s the 1970 Las Vegas live version. 😅❤

Right before he went out, he told Steve Binder the director that he couldn’t do it. He was so frightened and had stage fright that his anxiety led to his insecurities. Steve told him “ just go out and talk to one another and after you sing a song and if you can’t do it, come back”. He knew once Elvis got out there the music inside him he always needed to get out and his deep love for it would take over. Take over it did. He was very tentative and self conscious when he first came out but his relationship with the guys and the live audience he had missed so dearly started to get him to push on. He said after first 3 songs he was so into it that his confidence built & he was fine. He never shook that anxiety and stage fright his whole life. But once he walked on and started singing he was lost in creating and singing the music he loved. He was one singer who really sang from his soul. Great reaction too as you always do. 😅❤❤

He’s so cool. 😎 I mean he invented coolness and swag. Whatever he did, people followed him. Even with his fashions. He was such a talented cultural icon. Thanks again. Enjoy your reactions. 😀🎸🕺🏻❤️❤️

I feel drained listening to him. I can’t imagine how he felt. It looks so easy for him. It seems whatever he sang, he did make the song his own. Thanks so much. Beautiful reaction. 😅❤❤

I love this performance. When I listen to Elvis’s music, I find myself welling up and wondered why. I finally realized he’s so emotive when he sings that it reaches right into my heart and soul. I really feel it. He had that ability that he’s singing straight to me. Amazing talent. 😀🎸🕺🏻🎸🕺🏻❤️

This song was about the South initially, then the North who used Battle Hymn of the Republic during the Civil War. The third song was a Bahamian lullaby which the slaves sang to their babies. He combined all three to make a point and always loved this song because he was so Patriotic and loved his Country so. Thanks so much. A beautiful reaction. Especially when your glasses flew off with your headphones. 😂😂 That’s what Elvis tends to do to people. Expect the unexpected. ❤❤

Excellent reaction, and comments, as always. It’s hard to believe Elvis was so nervous before these live audience sit around sessions, that he almost backed out at the last minute. Another thing I these 68 performances show, is that he could definitely play the guitar. I don’t know if you have watched some of his concerts, where he is very self deprecating. He one time said something like, ‘I only knew three chords, but I sure fooled them.’ Thanks for sharing!

I get very emotional listening to this song and not in a patriotic way as I'm British. I've recently done a reaction video to this performance, even though I'm a massive fan, this song affects me every time! I'm loving your analysis of Elvis's performances

I missed this one. I'm having issues w-"notifications" that don't pop up but I do search. At any rate, another power-packed emotional one, not surprisingly. Background Info: The original song is the French song entitled "Comme d'habitude" by Jacques Revaux, Gilles Thibaut & Claude François. The English version (My Way) was by Paul Anka who re-wrote the original version for Frank Sinatra. Anka changed the lyrics & subtly altered the melodic structure. The original French song has nothing to do w-Paul Anka’s version as we know it, for the translation of "Comme d'habitude" meaning is “something that happens regularly” or “that isn't surprising.” There is a video of the original French version w-English subtitles entitled "Claude François Comme d'habitude French / English Lyrics Subtitles." Thx for another on-point reaction. I do believe he made every song his own, no matter who sang it w-a their own good voice, because it was Elvis who put in that powerful emotion that no one else did. It's been said that Sinatra’s daughter Nancy said Sinatra did not like the song to the point of hating it. Sinatra said it was "self-serving" but performed it many times anyway.

Thank you for another great reaction. Everything you said is so true and so well said. In 1957 Frank Sinatra wrote a short article for a French magazine on his thoughts about rock'n'roll and I quote: “My only deep sorrow is the unrelenting insistence of recording and motion picture companies upon purveying the most brutal, ugly, degenerate, vicious form of expression it has been my displeasure to hear-Naturally I refer to the bulk of rock ’n’ roll. “It fosters almost totally negative and destructive reactions in young people. It smells phony and false. It is sung, played and written for the most part by cretinous goons and by means of its almost imbecilic reiterations and sly, lewd-in plain fact, dirty-lyrics, and as I said before, it manages to be the martial music of every sideburned delinquent on the face of the earth … this rancid-smelling aphorodisiac I deplore. But, in spite of it, the contribution of American music to the world could be said to have one of the healthiest effects of all our contributions.” When Elvis was asked about his reaction to this, he is quoted as saying: “He has a right to his opinion, but I can’t see him knocking it for no good reason. I admire him as a performer and an actor but I think he’s badly mistaken about this. If I remember correctly, he was also part of a trend. I don’t see how he can call the youth of today immoral and delinquent. It’s the greatest music ever and it will continue to be so. I like it, and I’m sure many other persons feel the same way.” In my opinion, Frank only had Elvis on his show to welcome him home from the army in March1960 because he knew it would greatly help his failing ratings. A quote from Wikipedia says that when it was suggested to Frank that he made his fourth and final TV show a special to welcome Elvis home: "He accepted, aware that a Presley appearance would attract huge ratings for the hour, something that his three previous specials had failed to do."

I read this article or something almost exactly like it long ago so I know what you're referring to, & was not surprised at Sinatra's comments in the least, & yes, I think he agreed to have him on as a ratings booster for himself, just as Sullivan did, to increase his own ratings against Berle because Sullivan originally turned Elvis down but was incensed when Berle topped him.

Nobody did it better than this.Sadly Elvis never really looked as good as this again but his voice never failed him to the end some 4 years later. He did a blistering version of this on his last TV appearance Elvis In Concert in 1977 just weeks before his death when he was ill and overweight. The King to the end.

Frank Sinatra called Rock n Rollers "cretins", reflecting the older generation's opinion of this what became the new popular music. On Elvis' return from the army, Sinatra shrewdly presented Elvis on tv - The "Welcome Home Elvis" Timex Special. And the respect and appreciation for Elvis continued through the years, right to the end. Sinatra was performing on stage when Elvis passed away. His words to the audience that evening were heartfelt: "There have been many accolades uttered about Elvis’ talent and performances through the years, all of which I agree with wholeheartedly." I shall miss him dearly as a friend. He was a warm, considerate, and generous man.”

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Elvis's version of this song, he really makes you feel it deep in your soul. The arrangement is fantastic too. I became a fan in the 70s so that's my favourite era. His voice just seemed to get better and better, and even when he was so ill at the end the power in his voice is incredible. Can't remember if I've given you any suggestions yet but some of my favourites are: Just Pretend, Just Can't Help Believing, The Wonder of You, Love Letters, Until it's Time for You to Go, Peace in the Valley, Suppose, It's Still Here (I could go on but I'll stop there!).

The 2 sit down shows, that they cut together with the 2 stand up shows for the Tv Show, are NOT UNPLUGGED. During the sit down shows Elvis and his guitar player Scotty Moore, changed their guitars, so that one of them always plays the electric guitar. And an electric guitar needs to be plugged.

This is one of his first productions in Vegas. 1970. He rocks the stage. Watch “Elvis and the Black Community” 1 & 2 which is a compilation of videos acquired from interviews of those who knew him well. He was not racist, he was kind, and generous. But it gives the truth about how people felt about him and what he dealt with as a white performer in the Deep South in the USA. It’s worth a look
