Sometimes during a frame (one round of a game), a player can be losing and there not actually be enough points on the table for them to beat their opponent. The only way that they can win the frame is to get their opponent into a "snooker" as is done twice here, making it very hard for them to hit the ball they need to. They hope that this makes their opponent foul, and therefore give them points. With the extra points from the opponents' foul, they have a chance of winning the frame given the balls left on the table. :))

This is definitely a thing., I shoot on a custom American 8 foot table, with cushions of the American slant only to the contact dimension of an English ball, not an American ball the very type I use., to top off the equipment the pockets are leather and the inner rim is a pad covered in leather. As a result I constantly see dead center doubles kick right directly out of the pocket. Lesson If the equipment is official and recognized and agreed to and accepted. Then this is just another dimension and break, good or bad, and must be tolerated and acknowledged as a risk, until it is addressed and changed. Thank you for pointing out the impractical aspect to the knitting Mr. Robertson but for now the show must go on.
