Just started my Mato Sherman, I intend to drive it a lot so will stay with the metal parts. One thing i happened to notice on your model: the fuel spill is not accurate, the rear of the Sherman runs down slope so spilled fuel is not running in a straight line to the side but slightly backwards and than along the side down. For the rest: nice job. Very nice job.

Ha, I see I got an honorable mention regarding the airflow through the engine grill. While I don’t run my tanks like rally cars, I do drive over some rough terrain from time to time. Looking at it I wondered about the fragility of the piece. I’ll just have to do my best to be as careful as I can with the grill. Don’t plan on doing a lot of reversing, but you never know, I accidentally made my Tiger barrel roll one time when backing up.

I just got a similar set from AFV-C, my 1st try using their stuff. My kit is for a ~1943 "Nashorn" but essentially the same thing, maybe a little easier per link, but requires glue!!!! It is a frightening prospect to open up the bag, see so many tiny bits, and then realize that is one track, as in "of two". Oh well, too hot outside anyway right?

Beautiful work "Oddball " 😁 I have a cherry-picker project planned for the future. When I was a teen, I had the amazing Tamiya(sp?) (1:25 scale model), which was a really nice model for its day. I have always loved the interleaved wheel, torsion bar suspension. I have an old Biggs & Stratton Vertical shaft engine, and transmission from an old riding mower. I wanted to fabricate light weight versions of the early Tiger 1 wheels (probably half or (3/8) scale. My wheels will use a mold tool to create the shallow cone angle in PVC, then stiffen and strengthen them with a few plies of E-glass fiberglass. I want to gear the vehicle down to go slow. Its "Purpose" is to drive around the yard, and use a lift device, to hoist me up, to 10-20 feet up, to paint, clear gutters, and general maintenance. Do you (happen to know), the road wheel cone angle??? I have some drawings with dimensions, so I can ("trig -out") the angle to pretty close. But I thought you might know what the angle is, since you are clearly after authenticity. Thanks for any information. Matt
@oddball759mm
@oddball759mm 6 күн бұрын
Sounds like a cool project, but Sorry I don't have the angle off hand. There are cutaway drawings of the wheels and suspension online, there you can calculate the angle of the early pattern wheels, good luck :)

Back in the day, I had a single motor tamiya Panzer4 kit. It had a single motor and plastic geared gearbox. Unfortunately, the gearbox wore out in a month with light use. Unusually for Tamiya back in the day.

Current control board is a TK7.0/7.1. The older TK6.0/6.1 has four sound sets included while the newer 7.x only has two sound sets on each board. There are two different control boards, one has the Abrams/Leopard sounds and the other has the T90/Tiger sounds. The x.1 boards have servo ports while the x.0 does not for both the 6.x and 7.x systems. The 7.x series has some additional features the 6.x does not. Both the 6.x and 7.x systems come with both BB and IR functions built in. The tracks look to be the Canshuo brand tracks as the HL tracks still do not have rubber pads on them. Mato also makes rubber padded tracks, but the Mato tracks come with the pads separate. The Canshuo (CS) brand tracks have the most robust rubber pads. Canshuo isn't a well known brand of parts, but anytime you see a part number that starts with "CS", the parts are made by Canshuo. Canshuo makes a lot of the different metal upgrades for various tanks to include the TUSK1 and TUSK2 for the Abrams.

This video is a godsend! I’m right in the middle of doing a lot of this stuff to my own HL Abrams. Can’t wait to see part 2 Interesting to see what I’m guessing are more recent upgrades to the HL Abrams. I got mine in April 2023, and my swing arms don’t have the groove in them middle and the base for the small track alignment wheels are all plastic.

No problem, the other two videos should drop sometime this week. This one was 2021 dated for mfg. Perhaps it's because this one was the metal upgraded one which was why it had the metal idler adjuster and other metal accessories.

@@oddball759mm Yeah I got the professional version one too with all the metal drive gear parts. Also mine came with all metal tracks and I had to purchase the metal tracks with rubber pads separately. Some one bought this and sent it to you to upgrade correct? I wonder if they bought this one from someone who sells them with a few improvements added over the stock version.

I will be posting my small scale upgrades to another platform so they will still be available but the M2s are gone, unless someone buys out shapeways and keeps the back catalog... otherwise they are gone to the sands of time :(

Interesting tidbit about the real life M4A3E8 Sherman: This medium tank was actually favored over the more heavily armored M26 Pershing due to its reliability, and its excellent performance in the infantry support role. It was also capable of taking on (and many times defeating) the North Korean ((soviet) T34-85 medium tank

The 66th MP co. stationed in Phu Tai VN. was the MP company that had the Marvel comic characters on our V-100's. The 560the did not. We had 16 V's and all but one had Marvel artwork. The only one that did not was The Lemon. I have no clue why the 560th get this attributed to them. The 66th was even mentioned in one of Marvel's comic books. We escorted the convoys from the staging area called the Ponderosa at QL1 and QL19 and took them up the An Khe pass then turned them over to the 560th about 2 miles past the top of the pass. Of course we shot up the " Welcome to the 560th AO" sign there every chance we got, lol. So please keep it historically correct. Marvel artwork was 66th MP company ! Also it was mentioned that these vehicles swim. Technically that is true, however we removed the plugs so that during the monsoon season, when highways 1 and 19 were flooded in places, our V's would stay on the road and not float off into the rice paddies. Thank you for a great video! P.S. Go to the 66th MP Co. Vietnam Facebook page. All my photos of our V's with the Marvel artwork are there, and more. P.P.S. I do have a picture of a 560th V-100, X-52 called God of Hell Fire, if any of you 560th guys would like to have a copy, contact me.

Nice build on a classic Tamiya kit from the 1970s!! As a retired US Army Tanker, the only time you have rust on the tracks of tanks, M48, M60 and M1 tanks when they’re sitting in the motor pool for weeks without being moved. In the field, the end connectors and other steel parts of the track are more of a satin, not gloss, gun metal gray.
