How many willow sticks did it use?
@GemmaThePen3 ай бұрын
I’ll be honest, I didn’t think to count them at the time 🤦🏻♀️ - but I am guessing there was something like 24-30 sticks in the pack. I used 16 as the upright sticks in the wooden holder, and the rest as weavers. I hope that vaguely helps! ☺️

Can you use acrylic paint?
@GemmaThePen3 ай бұрын
As acrylic is so fast-drying it can be a bit tricky, but if you can mix in a good dollop of retarder/extender medium then there are possibilities. It’s very much trial and error to get the right consistency, but experimenting can be fun! Keep in mind, if the paint design dries on the surface then it won’t transfer to paper and may be a pain to clean off too. That’s why I stick to block printing ink as I don’t have to worry about the drying time so much ☺️

Thank you for the tip on using a gloss finish rather than matte!! I had no idea ❤
@GemmaThePen4 ай бұрын
Happy to help! 💛 In my prints, I've found the shinier I can make the surface the better, so glossy sealants just add that extra shiny and help the ink transfer off.
@nathaliet.39854 ай бұрын
Thank you for reminding me about that technique and how much fun it is to play with a whole host of random things to create prints. I love the surprise of the reveals. It's like magic, and I just can't get enough of it! I'm like a kid! LOL And when some amazingly gorgeous result "shows up"on the paper, I get so happy that my cheeks start tingling, and then my whole face! 😂❤

It IS just so fun, isn't it! And I am constantly surprised by the random, cool textures you can make, just from bits of wool or foil or whatever. I think you've hit the nail on the head there too - it really speaks to the inner child in us, who is just creating for the pure joy and the "what's gonna happen?" energy! It's glorious creative playtime - and tingly cheeks are a sure sign of something magic happening! 👏☺️

Ooh I went to Anglesey Abbey last time I was back in the UK (did you find the treehouse and 'play area'? 😆). I only took a few photos but will use them as reference one day. For the art ponder I definitely feel better than when I started, in a number of ways. I've learnt to observe references better and can see perspective more easily. I've become very comfortable with the mediums I like (fineliners and coloured pencils). So I'm more confident and less afraid to start a piece or take on a more complex piece. I do worry that I'll forget it all if I go for too long without drawing though.
@GemmaThePen4 ай бұрын
Ahh brilliant! It's a lovely place to visit, isn't it! Sadly, on the day we went, we were told as we entered that most of the further grounds were too boggy to go wandering in - so we didn't get to the treehouse! I'm glad you have some nice photos to look back on and use too ✨ It's a lovely thing to start finding the materials/processes you love and to feel them becoming more familiar and natural to use. And that is a great point about being more confident to take on more complex pieces - at the start, the very idea of some things can feel overwhelming, but as confidence grows so does courage. Oh gosh, I feel you there about the practise though - I swear, as soon as I don't use a skill for a while my brain just chucks it all out 😅
