Another great video and like many FF7 holds a special place in my video game memory. I had no idea of Aeris' pending demise and that still is the most memorable video game moment of all time to me (right up there with the original psycho mantis controller switch and reading your memory card). I picked up FF7 real time (hard to believe about 27 years ago) just by chance and still have all 4 discs somewhere in my collection. I did virtually all side quests including levelling mimic materia and knights of the round to try and kill the 2 optional mega bosses - Ruby and Emerald Weapons - but I do not think I ever finished them. All of that said, and as much as I loved FF7, I do not think I could replay it today. I put A LOT of time into that game!

Once again, great video and review. I really appreciate your honest opinions and for what is is worth I agree with almost all of them. I have finished Stellar Blade as well and agree it is a great game - but not without some important faults. The game is beautiful, the game play is exceptional, the music is superior, and the concept of the plot is great but not well executed in my opinion. I think this is a game that could have been and should have been longer and had more character and plot development, but either way it is great. As you mention there is virtually no development or investment in Adam until all of a sudden his absence clearly foreshadows a major shift. Personally I think the game's reliance on "other" things (really we need more swimsuits?) may hurt the reputation in the long run. Time will tell if this becomes a classic but I think the potential is there and I think a well done continuation would be great. My only semi-critical comment on your review is I am surprised that you did not initially side with Adam at the end. I understand the idea of getting all endings, but to me siding with Adam clearly seemed like the "good" choice at the end. Keep up the good work.

First off, absolutely amazing video and review, very well done! I apprecaited all of your points. Like many have already said, I am an "older gamer" now so am much more stingy of my gaming time So after Stellar Blade I went looking for a similar game and Nier is definitely filling that niche. I am in playthrough B which does seem to be a slog, but the game is overall superior and worth the time. In my opinion, Nier is just one of those games that every "real gamer", whatever that is, needs to have experienced. These types of games form the backbone and history of the gaming culture. Keep up the good work.

For the record, that FFXIII-2 lag has got to be an Xbox emulation issue. I played on PS3, and while there were definitely frame dips, it was never anywhere near single digits. Especially not during cutscenes.

Honestly story 3 with A2 and 9S sucked for me. Really felt like someone else wrote that story and didn't give two shits. The plot was dumb as hell, it was short, It forced me to play as 9S for a lot of the time, the bosses were easy as hell and the endings were awful. Glad I only had to get 3 endings and 2 of them were together. Only benefit is the cool flight suit for 2B. Don't all vending machines have replacable bodies inside them like a respawn point? Why wasnt 2B respawned there? Why do androids sometimes bleed and sometimes not? Why am I supposed to care about robots who view death as below them? There's so many things wrong with this story. I love this game, the setting, combat, soundtrack and sometimes characters are great. My only advice is to skip through the story as fast as possible. Its awful.

Small note: boss challenge actually isn't locked behind beating the game. I didn't get the game until after that had been added in a patch and you can open it from the get go (maybe after Abaddon?) but you obviously can only fight the bosses you've beaten so far. I like that it's there as you play, as I practiced every now and then for fun, which came in handy with the rematches in the later game.

15 and 13 are the most hated Final Fantasy entries? Damn those just happen to be my favorites 💀 The weakest part of 15 is without a doubt the sidequests. Most of them are as generic as it gets for sidequests, especially when it gets to the Laestalum sidequests. On my last playthrough I decided to just skip those. The combat system I never really minded. I dont see it as an action-focused system like Devil May Cry or NieR, but more as a hybrid between an action system and the classic wait system. Holding down the attack button is boring, yeah, but its not supposed to be the way to fight battles exclusively imo but more the inbetween more effective moves. Like the wait time between the ATB (?) segments filling up in FF 13. Also once you choose higher difficulties and /or choose to stray from the classic tank +raw dumb attack strength strategy (or once you just start playing Comrades) and instead actually indulge in the games systems (magic, royal arms, armiger, techniques and, newly added, playing as your companions) you start to notice that just holding the attack button does not win battles anymore. Sidequests aside, the FF XV story is just painfully beautiful though and you would be doing yourself a disservice to not experience the universe for yourself. It being spread across many different mediums would be a strength, not a weakness, in my opinion, because it allows you to experience the story in more ways than just gameplay. Because admit it; When you have been glued to the same screen for hours on end you start to not pay as much attention as you maybe should and, therefore, you stop appreciating the story. Now, I am saying "would" because having to buy a movie, a show and a book seperately really sucks. The DLC should have been incoprorated into the main game too somehow, DLC are supposed to EXTEND the story of a game, not be a crucial part to understanding the story.

Nice vid. Stellar Blade gets criticised unfairly for the plot- I think it actually has the makings of a great story, but just fell short in its delivery. Here are some ideas I thought would've elevated it: -If the fetch quests that turned up deceased loved ones was part of a greater story arc, e.g. saving kaya's sister. Having 3 or 4 of these to instil a level of hopelessness of actually rescuing her, before showing that she's alive and can be saved. -If Adam brought more attention to the tragedy of killing naytibas, their own fragility and struggle for survival, which would've given the story some replay value, to get a sense of his motivations. -If Tachy's death was made more emotionally impactful. Perhaps showing their friendship as the intro to the story instead of the squad landing. This could be interactive, and a great way to learn the basics of combat too. The sequence could end with Tachy picking Eve up after besting her, with a match-cut to the scene of her being helped out of the landing pod on the field. In the boss fight with Tachy, Eve could also struggle to say 'may your memories live on' because she knows she's lost her. -If the Karakuri boss fight echoed the scene in Lily's atelier, e.g. it turned out Karakuri was trying to create a beautiful garden, and was only protecting it from intruders, to show that there still are traces of humanity left amongst the naytiba. And for Eve to not kill this one as a result. -If Clyde is forced out of his oasis to help Eve, or that he is missing, and Eve is especially invested in saving him. I felt there was a strong chemistry and potential for romance here, that could've echoed that of Su and Enya. The oasis is also a great story ending location symbolically, being a paradise in the midst of a vast desert. -If the human genome is salvageable in some way, or the possibility of this is at least raised before the end.
@hbic7367

The reason I went with the 'bad ending' without pause was because no practicality was given on looking for coexistence with the naytibas. Sure, Eve & Adam's fused form is cool, but can they change the grotesque enemies across the world? It's hard to envision naytibas walking around Xion without killing everyone. If they can fix the naytibas, why couldn't adam do this himself? The final boss exposition dump just ruined everything for me.

The final fantasy 13 trilogy ✨️ i honestly loved all the characters and I was just 12 playing it. I related mostly to Hope in way when I lost my dad. I felt close to Lightning and Snow too. It really helped me as a boy growing up. I loved the gameplay and the cutscenes. When 13-2 came out it became an instant favorite. Definitely an upgrade from the 1st and the antagonist was everything in this game and rememberable. And seeing Hope doing better for himself made me feel really good in that game. And I felt like the whole Time and Space thing was phenomenal and beautifully done right ❤ Of course the music is very rememberable and I even play them to this day at 26. I remember defending the game from FF7 fanboys lol 😆 they were too much honestly. But I knew I was defending a masterpiece. If I could forget and replay this for the 1st time 💙 It really changed my life 💯 and inspired me.

This game's modern reputation taught me something - I do not align with the overall FF fandom anymore. I like XV quite a lot - for all the reasons that the vocal majority (or at least the part of it that I've interacted with) seems to dislike it - I like the combat system, I like the dour atmosphere, I like that our characters _do_ _not_ get what they were hoping for and that things _do_ _not_ work out the way they wanted. I like the odd clash of vaguely realistic world design with decidedly fantasy details. I like how the characters aren't constantly chipper and saccharine and in your face. Essentially and overly simplified - I like all the Tabata-isms, while I've grown to hate all the Nomura-isms of the newer games. One I can respect, the other desperately wants me to like it based on genre conventions and aesthetics. Oh also! That hidden puzzle dungeon was just the absolute best thing to ever stumble across blindly in a modern game. Loved that bit to death.

I dunno man, this part at 25:24 feels a bit harsh honestly. This is happening in the farplane, and we've already seen how the images of the dead can come to manifest when in there. Most importantly to this point though, is that Yuns is in her songtress dressphere, which we've already seen Yuna meshing both hers and Lenne's memories together in dreams and lost literal control of her bodily control due to Lenne's spirit inhabiting the sphere for the dressphere itself, she even questions if what she's feeling in this scene are her feelings or Lenne's. Yuna isn't manifesting the image of Shuyin, Lenne is, and he's not seeing Yuna but instead Lenne which is brought up again later at the tail end of the game. It isn't until she fades out of being in the songstress sphere that we no longer see Shuyin over Baralai. The only thing that I feel is potentially out of the realm of what both this and X has shown us to be possible, is the possession bit, but that is shown at the end of X with the aeons and Yu Yevon so I don't think it's that crazy really. Now, am I gonna sit here and argue that it's one of the greatest stories ever told and is done so with impeccable fashion....no....no I will not. It's endearing in a lot of places, campy in so much more, and I think it was just trying to have a bit more fun overall to combat how sullen a lot of X was even with it's more lighthearted moments it had.

Caius is one of the most well writen villains I've ever seen. I genuinely can't think of any better. I don't remember if it's explained in the datalog or in the main story, but him and Yuel aren't in society very much at all. His design not fitting the rest of the world actually makes a lot of sense. His theme is also one of the best, most well written songs for a villain I've ever heard. I think they did well with the main characters, better than XIII even, but I don't think they went into enough depth for them. Noel is kind of hard to understand sometimes, and so is Serah. I obviously understand them very well, but most people don't look into it as deep as I do, but when i first played it I didn't understand them well at all. Still, Serah is my favorite character of the whole trilogy because of this game. I think they shouldn't have made Noel repeat a ton of things that just happened. Noel: "Who's behind this?" Serah: "Only the power of a Fal'cie could do this." . . . *2 seconds later* Noel: "Who's closing things off?" Serah: "I don't think it is a who." Reference to Academia 400AF, i played that beginning a lot to capture fencers for my chichu and Lightning. There are only 2 in the game and the only way to get them is to redo Academia 400AF over and over. They just could've done Noel better over all, but he is still great. I've gotten mad at him a couple times for being dumb though. 💀 (I AM SO MAD ABOUT WHAT THEY DID TO SERAH AT THE END, THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO DO THAT! EVEN THOUGH THEY KINDA SAID THEY WOULD EARLY ON, IT STILL SUCKS!!) I don't think Hope was an amazing character in this game. The voice actor started to not care and you can tell. He also isn't in enough of the story to really tell if you love him or just like him very easily. I personally think that he was just okay. I'm glad he was there but he could've been done better. Even his theme, which is still good, isn't as good as his first theme. They kinda did the same to Lightning too, but she was a little better than Hope. I think Noel, Serah, and Caius were the best actors. Over all, best game of the 3, i love the battle system, i love the characters and story even more than the first game, and i fully agree with this games sound track being the best one too. Whether anyone loves or hates the first game, i genuinely recommend this one after. The puzzle parts all have a little tutorial don't they? If not, it's bad design and I've always hated them, but there are clock solver websites at least, and there are answer keys to the red room, gather the crystals and you can't step on the same tile more than twice ones. (idk what they're called.) I also HATE the rambunctious chocobos. Just use the normal one's, right? Would've been so much better. I like the silly metal rout they took with their theme. 💀 I hate Snow's design in this one, and I'm highly disappointed with what they did with Sazh. I want more of him, he's a really good character. These games changed my life. They made me more appreciative of things, and Snow's and Serah's relationship made me realize i was in a toxic one for almost three years. I got out of it because of Snow and Serah. I seriously recommend these games to everyone if they like RPGs, or want to get into them.

Snow is one of my favorites, and FFXIII and XIII-2 are my favorite games too. I honestly like these games more than 7 and 9. (both great games and I do still love them.) I've spent a lot of time looking into every little detail of these games stories. A ton of it is repeat fluff (especially in 2.) but it's actually really good, and I love the journey's of every character, their interactions with one another are really good too. Snow didn't get enough attention, they didn't do Hope very well, and they could've lessened the.. interesting sounds from Vannile. Really though, it's so good it's worth overlooking those things, and maybe paying more attention to what the story writers were trying to do. Snow, Hope, and Vannile are actually a really good characters if you just give them a good chance. (the sound track is definitely BEAUTIFUL though.) (Hope is really really bad in LR 💀)
