Hello! Relatively new to you channel. You inspire me so much to start writing again. What's you favorite pen for writing, and what do you use for filming?

Thank you! I've been loving my Kaweco Sport fountain pen, but for day-to-day I love the Sharpie S-Gel 0.7. And for filming I just use my phone, which is an iPhone 11, and a small clip-on-mic my sister lent me.

If you're able to, position the camera close enough to see what you're writing. Assuming it's not private/confidential such as an actual book/story you're working on and intend to publish. Watching quality penmanship, or any effortful penmanship in this day/age, is always a treat.

Thank you for watching! I am working on a novel actually, so gotta keep it private, but it does hurt for me to add the blur, I love calligraphy / good penmanship as well!

This was lovely! I enjoy journaling with fountain pens as well, as long as I can find paper that doesn't bleed through too much. I do my own novel writing on my channel too (typing with different keyboards), so it's fun to find a similar channel. Thanks for sharing!

Wait you’re writing your whole book by hand? 😯 I’ve been wanting to try that method but it feels daunting to me! 🫢 I guess I just need to give it a real go to see how it truly feels

I love switching things up! So I've got stuff on my computer, handwritten, and typed out on my typewriter. I like handwriting because it reminds me of writing as a kid. Try it out!

If you don't mind me saying so, I much preferred your ch 9 recording. The blurring makes it feel like you're hiding something (which, naturally, you are), whereas the slanted view prevented one from reading your text without that "look at me writing but don't read" feel to it. It felt cosier and I could almost imagine a friend busy at her work by my side. I prefer writing at the computer because I can easily go back and rewrite to my heart's content without ever running out of space or ending up with ugly crossed out expanses of paper. I reserve the paper only for quick notes so I don't forget a sudden idea. I hope your novel is advancing smoothly!

Like you, I prefer my pen. I feel that few things give me the feeling of expressing emotions in a more natural way, away from machines. My inspiration comes perhaps every time I fall and think I can't get out of it, as if my inner conflicts turn into a story as my pen glides over the paper. I think a writer must go through many events, otherwise a masterpiece cannot be created. I find your point of view close to my own and I would like to be friends with you and discuss these issues.

Annie!!!-Fellow recovering academically trained writer here as well. I did go the grad school route, though I embarked upon my journey as a playwright, not a novelist. I only realized years later (I finished grad school in 2008) that when my stage direction was the most interesting part of my writing, I was a novelist trapped in a playwright’s training. For years, I had struggled with my current project-my first novel-a sort of coming of age story, but for an adult still trying to figure it all out rather than a biological child growing up. Then, in 2020, I fell ill with COVID, becoming one of the “lucky” ones to become even more severely sick with long COVID. I share that because it was the turning point for so, so many things for me. It gave me depths to explore on the page that I never could have imagined prior-brushes with death do that, I suppose-and in a season of life where I am often so severely fatigued that I cannot get out of bed, the writing has given me purpose. It’s honestly the only reason I’m still here. As anyone with severe ME/CFS or similar condition will attest, these diseases are not for the faint of heart. And so it occurred to me-I not only have so, so much to live for, but I so, so much to write about. I have an unfair advantage over a lot of writers-it’s do or die for me-but you are so right in every point you made in this video. Find the joy in the work. Find the purpose for yourself. Don’t get crushed under the weight of goals. And don’t judge what makes you happy, what you put to page, and whatever genre you may end up writing. Thank you so much for sharing this, seriously, it is so validating and inspiring. I know you don’t know me from Adam, but I am pulling for you and cannot wait to see each and every step of your journey forward! And, perhaps annoyingly, I’ll keep you abreast of the progress I am able to make. Because word counts are tricky in my line of disability, I mark my output in hours spent. Last month-February-I put up 20 hours. This month I’m lower-lots of crashing-but still pushing. In total, I have maybe 6 chapters, but I’m the sort of writer that writes a scene a million times, so I have perhaps thousands of pages that aren’t even first draft material, but rather means to that end, if that makes any sense. Anyways, all that to say-your work matters, it is helpful, and no matter what, it’s worth your time and energy. Write on!
