I agree re the calendar - Google calendar is better. Having bought a “month on 2 pages” insert, I’m starting to use it for habit tracking (if I can develop any good ones! Haha). Longer term the plan is for 1 insert for bullet journal, day per page, with curated longer-term, categorised to-dos etc in the 2nd insert.

Sounds like a good plan! I have a similar setup for my habit tracking, but in my main journal. It works for me, hope it works for you too! I love figuring out what works and what doesn't and eventually getting to a system that is personalised and works 😊😊

Those fountain pens are really beautiful you got there!! I heard some people use it for Islamic or Perso-Arab calligraphy. I’m not actually a religious person or anything,I just find the artwork and the tools they use are really interesting and quite useful,also I was wondering what is the cheapest ones you have and I’m curious to see how much it actually costs when buying one from any kind of store or website such as Amazon,eBay,Etsy, etc.
@HomeWithMyBookshelfАй бұрын
Thanks! I don't use mine for calligraphy at all, I just write normally with them, mainly in my journal. Calligraphy pens are usually different than these, with different ink. I think my cheapest one is the Jinhao Shark pen at about $4, followed by the Platinum Preppys at around $5.50. The Chinese pens I showed may be cheaper, but those were gifts, so I don't know what they sell for.

I am glad I checked in when I did, this sounds like a big change I hope this issue with your eyes passes without too much trouble. Given how "close up" so many of your interests are, that is quite a hurdle for you. "HomeWithMyAudiobook" just doesn't have the same ring to it, so lets hope these eye doctors can get you figured out I'm glad you have found ways to persist. The big move back to Oslo is surprising, is it just to be closer to family? Also glad you found more vikings to hang out with, can't be without that
@HomeWithMyBookshelf4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I really hope my vision issues pass soon. But we are definitely talking months here. There were several reasons for my move to Oslo. A big one is definitely to be closer to family, since both my parents have serious health issues and are getting older. Another is to have more choices in who I have as friends. And I just wasn't thriving in Flatanger, despite what my videos may have indicated.

It sounds like you've had to make a lot of adjustments--- big ones! I'm guessing this is simply more than farsightedness....does your condition have a medical name? I'd love to watch any video you make as your voice is is so calming to me. Wishing you the best.

Yes, it's more than farsightedness - I have trouble adjusting my focus to close things. My glasses help, but not all the way. I can watch tv if I am 3 metres away, and I can use my phone minimally (which is how I read your comment). I will definitely continue making videos, and I am glad you like my voice!
@mindyalbright44914 ай бұрын
That was quite an undertaking, and looks cozy. That said, you mention that use is making the edges a bit wobbly. It is wool. If you ever want to flatten out those edges, again, when you wash it, rather than just laying it out to dry, actually 'block' it. Pin it out with enough tension to stretch it a bit, and pull it straight again. (Or possibly for the first time. Sort of an advanced version of the 'tug on it'. that you do to align your stitches as you make them.)
@HomeWithMyBookshelf4 ай бұрын
I could definitely try to block the shlanket, but it is working out very well so far. And it is definitely cozy! I never have to worry about a cold torso ever again haha. The edges started curling even as I was working on it, so it may be an effect of how I turn for each row. I don't mind it though!

Just to be clear, at 2:56ff, you insert the needle into the right-most (first) mouse ear front to back, then into the left ear (2nd) back to front?
@HomeWithMyBookshelf5 ай бұрын
Yup, I do. I have since changed to picking both up from the front. It doesn't really matter, as long as you after this stitch continue picking up the loops from the front (front to back). For me, at least, the first stitch always looks a little different/weird, and I have decided not to care 😅

@HomeWithMyBookshelf5 ай бұрын
I recommend using non-superwash wool yarn for ease of felting the joins together. The thickness of yarn depends on the stitch you choose to learn, but if you want to learn the one used in this video, I recommend about sport weight. Thanks for this! Just discovering your very helpful tutorials. This helped me decide on a first book. I’m also curious about the boot/slipper? at 12:22. Is that all nalbinding or are there different materials & techniques for the sole portion? How does the book describe them? I’d like to make slippers at some point & something like this would be a good goal to set eventually. It’s a really good-looking design.
@HomeWithMyBookshelf5 ай бұрын
Those are lugger/labber - the leg portion is knitted, the sole is nalbound, and I think there is also some felted fabric that is used. You can google "Namdalslabben" for something similar. Designed for outdoor use on really cold, dry snow, but very useful indoors on cold floors.

Hmmm ive seen a needle like that but it had also a notch so that the thread is wound around it i have no idea what its for. Maybe for this but to have a longer peice of thread?
@HomeWithMyBookshelf5 ай бұрын
The notch is probably kind of like the groove in my needle - it's to give the yarn somewhere to be while you push the needle through so it doesn't hinder the movement. I personally don't find a groove or notch to be very useful in nalbinding needles, but some people prefer them.

Hello! I have a question as to why we rip after the first part and rejoin to continue the stitch? Wouldn’t it make sense to keep the whole piece as one?
@HomeWithMyBookshelf5 ай бұрын
In nalbinding, each stitch is made by pulling the entirety of the yarn through. It is impractical to pull a whole skein of yarn through each stitch, which is why we work with thread lengths that are spliced as we go. I generally work with longer thread lengths than what I show in this video, but as a beginner it can be helpful to not have to deal with a large amount of thread.
@vinngraves91026 ай бұрын

There’s another neat way, with which I usually load my needle with 7-10 metres at a time. I personally find that the yarn is also less prone to get tangled around itself when you use that trick, which is a bonus: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y-BhdsyH2LSue4U.html

My first row, even when I tighten into a circle, is still super loose, so loose that I can’t tell if mine looks like yours! I’ve redone it 4 times now , trying to tighten more and more, but never reaching what yours looks like. Any ideas?
@HomeWithMyBookshelf8 ай бұрын
You could try this method of starting instead: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZrhneLqpysfZg4k.htmlsi=FBmA7j1GDOvv2h5- If you find your Oslo stitch being too loose in general, you can either choose a thicker yarn to work with, a denser stitch (like Mammen), or you could tighten the stitch to your needle by stopping the needle halfway through the loop, tightening the previous loop, and then pulling the needle through.
