Gday sir, I am a chevy guy. I am thinking of building a 350 with the biggest bore practicality possible. Zero Deck, steel heads ported with 2" intake valves, stock exhaust, stock intake port-matched, stock cam for now and 1.6 hi perf stamped steel rockers. H I'm hoping to get 450 hp. Do you have any suggestions?

Stock FE heads! C6TE-G heads. But im working on a set of C4AE-G heads to swap on. Only real difference is the exhoust port. The C4AE-G heads don't have the little ski ramp in them for the EGR.

if you want to increase your octane from 91 to a bit more and you have like a 16 gallon tank, how many gallons of higher octane race gas ie 100 or 104 do you have to add to boost the 91 octane up?

My question regarding heads, looking at building a circuit racing 66 mustang 347 windsor with a 5.0 roller block but unsure of heads, ported gt40?, alloy windsor or cleveland heads to make it a boss engine? Your suggestions i will respect your opinion

This is off the subject, but do you flow car cylinder heads with the Super flow 110? Or is that more for smaller heads like motorcycles?
@benalamedaracing2765
@benalamedaracing2765 18 сағат бұрын
Good question Mike! The 110 is my first ever flow bench from about 40 years ago. That said it will flow a big block head short of a Pro Stock and can still do it as long as you are able to read the inches of depression. I go very low and they give you a conversion chart using for ex. 5" and convert to 28" which is the standard most use to comparing numbers. However, flow benches are like dyno's and can give somewhat different numbers so one must be aware of what theirs is actually reading accurately. Using a 110 for ex. will give me a flow numbers of 400 @ 28, from my experience when I bring the same heads to somebody with an SF600 or bigger the numbers shows actually 10cfm more! Seen it happens with others but let me tell you this as a parting comment. Dynos flowbenches are nothing but tools and even if you have a very expensive snap on tool box as impressive as it is, a good technician with a basic craftsman might just do a much better job because they are more experienced and have the proper background. Obtw, I reflow my heads on a "better" flow bench just to cross check and the numbers looks better from what I get out of my tiny one. Here I would rather have a lesser number than a bloated one that will skew my belief that I have a better cylinder flow numbers.

Thank you for an awesome response, most of my questions on other channels are answered with a single sentence, even when I ask a couple questions. I would like to buy a flow bench and randomly see the 110 units, which are more in my budget. I have also considered the unit that runs with shop vacs and a laptop. Thank you again and I enjoy your content, my son has a 04 GT that I know he would like to hop up, but he needs a job first. I have a 69 GTO w a Ram Air 3 that I’m working on and want a bit more flow from the heads w/ out going Aluminum. Thanks again and keep up the great content.

@@mikemcnamara2943 thanks again and if you make a home made flowbench accuracy can be a secondary importance. What you must note is that it is repeatable and any changes you do can be traced back to your flowbench for posted flow increases! This way you can see an "actual" flow improvement absent of an actual number posted. Everytime that horizontal meter shows a decrease you are improving flow and when that tapers off take to someone with a good bench and have it flowed so you have your actual cfm rating. Good luck Mike!

Ben, I saw a hybrid motor build. The 481x 392 block 454 head. Can you take the time to explain the combo in detail? Also, I previously wrote that 10:5:1 comp on 10psi boost was the limit of e85 fuel. This was based on a chart I had found. Richard quickly corrected me stating he ran 30psi on 10.5:1 with e85. I asking for a second opinion.

The reason for the Compromise in the Cleveland 4V intake port was the carb had to fit under the hood to be allowed in NASCAR and trans/am that is why the intake port was not raised, the exhaust had to fit in between the Ford Shock towers. The Ford guys knew there was a problem, but the improved heads wouldn't fit into the stock cars.

So, the guy that remained nameless, who wanted OC heads.......lol, I know you dont like em and I am stupid enough to try to make some work.....but, do you know what he was going to do with them? would the chamber get better if the whole thing was shallower, and say, 63cc instead of 76cc? Just hypothetically thinking....would a piston stir the mixture on the spark plug boss if it were close enough to it, or is the problem more the distance from the spark plug to the opposite side of the chamber and pressure increases from combustion all acting upon that final phase of the burn? If that is the case, octane is the only cure?

I felt he milled the maximum out of it with some semblance of quench by doing these. It can be done if you have the heads profiled and make a quench style piston dome on it and should do very well.

Thanks for that. Fantastic talk there Ben. I remember seeing a Big Block Chevy with four long trumpets, and four short trumpets, now I know why. Although it's not just port volume and length that is the problem. It's totally different characteristics on the overlap cycle because the short port aims at the corner of the chamber and the long port aims at the exhaust valve. I think this must cause havoc with tuning. After seeing how much work can go into the Big Chevy heads, I don't feel so bad about doing the modifications to the Cleveland 4V heads. These days I think its cost effective to go the aluminum heads because they also lower mass and center of gravity.

Yes sir it is best if you have a rare C head or engine and just preserve them specially if they are a Boss or CJ. I remember talking with an "expert" on BBC's and he told me he knows everything about them. When I asked him did he know there are 2 engines in that block because 4 ports are doing the other 4 ports are not! And he gave me a blank stare and the so called expert did not even know his ports are not doing all the same thing like the combustion chambers are even worse! lol

@sheridenboord7853 13 күн бұрын
@@benalamedaracing2765 Yeah. I think we can agree to get power all the cylinders need to work together. To tune the BBC you would need long trumpets on the short ports, and short trumpets for the long ports, yeah? Now grind a cam with two different profiles, less overlap for the long ports with the hemi like flow across the valves, and more overlap for the shortys with their lower overlap flow. Headache's. Just put the BBC in a truck, and put an aluminum head on the Fords for racing.
