Isn't that a KTM 990 in the garage? Assuming it's your bike, wouldn't a Yamaha T7 be kind of redundant? New bikes are great, but...990's are a beast.

Nice vid. Interesting backstory on the TAT, GPS files files etc. if you haven't seen the interview with Sam linked from ADV's front page, he mentioned certain groups of people who live in and around the TAT got annoyed with all the motorcyclists passing through they got together to create signage that made it *appear* the TAT route was going through private property when it was not. It's unclear whether they gated or otherwise impeded the route. Not sure if you encountered that? Can't remember which state, possibly TN.
@MeerkatADV3 күн бұрын
@MCGMB I did not run into any problems with the route which he appeared to be aware of. Most had clearly been like that for several years if not longer. Out of 20 riding days on Sams route, I had route problems on 18 of them.
@steves66143 күн бұрын
Curious, you said you have issues with Sam's route and how he put it together. Do you have a better cross country route?
@MeerkatADV3 күн бұрын
Never said that, though I would say my CDT route is better. At least it works. If you're going to sell your route, your customers have the expectation it works. The TAT is not a functioning route, out of 20 riding days on the route I had route problems on 18 of those days. And note, when I talk about a route problem, I mean an issue of the actual route file. I'm not talking about snow, or a washout, or something you expect with adventure riding. I'm talking about closed roads, locked gates, private property, or illegal trails.

The GDMBR was created in the late 90s by the Adventure Cycling Association. Their paper maps are very detailed and worth having as much as a collector item as much as a nav tool. GPS tracks of the GDMBR (and the modified version for the cycling race now known as the Tour Divide) are freely available all over the internet. A lot of bikepackers have contributed to route knowledge, info, and GPX files over the years. Those cycling-centric tracks would need to be modified for moto use. One nice thing about the bikepack files is that so far, nobody has taken the work of the ACA and tried to re-sell it - although people have tried to monetize their work in other ways. Anyway, interesting conversation about the GPS files. ✌

Love the video sharpnesses and clarity. The best of all motorcycle YT channels that I’ve seen. Could you expand the sections outlining the mapped route you just finished? In this case starting 39:22. It’s hard to see the names of the towns and places you visited. Perhaps an animation of the names popping up large-size progressively in the directions you traveled. That would make this all absolutely perfect. 💯
