If you are using Blender 4.2, the ambient occlusion option is no longer available. I would suggest turning on Raytracing instead. It can be found in the EEVEE rendering tab. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the video. Is there a way to clean up the geometry so it can used in real time(unreal)? I can't really decimate it as it breaks the form completely. the vines generated also doesn't follow a more normal cylindrical shape so it's really hard to clean it up, the result remains the same when I tried different spline types.

This is a great question. To be honest, I haven't tried bringing an animated geo nodes setup into Unreal Engine so I won't be much help here. I do know that Blender's remeshing tools aren't always the strongest. When I need something a little better I use an addon called Quad Remesher by Exoside. It is a paid addon and I'm not certain how well it would work on something like these tendrils. But it might be an avenue worth exploring.

ok so if you are in blender 4.2 and you cant find the ambient occlusion well i gotchu broddy. go into the shading tab at the top of blender. now if you press shift+A and search up ambient occlusion it'll be there but we are not going to use ambient occlusion. press shift+A and look for the transparent BSDF and the mix shader nodes. connect the BSDF output (green dot), to the mix shader's shader input (doesnt matter which one), connect the transparent BSDF's BSDF output (green dot) to the mix shader's shader input. now connect the mix shader's shader output (green dot) to the surface input of the material output node. and boom it should be transparent. to play around with the transparency mess around with the mix shaders fac. put it at 0 or 1 so itll be completely transparent. i personally put it at 0.050 that way i can still see the outer eye. follow the video up to time stamp 2:38 where he changes the transmission all the way up to 1.00 ad then go ahead and apply this method. ill update the comment when i watch and finish the full video happy designing.

great but works in Eevee even better. And you can put a strong bloom on it:) Im just a beginner, maybe I missed something why cycles is better:)

Hey thanks for the watch! Which ever render engine you use is up to whatever one you feel most comfortable with! I will say that Cycles is a physically based render engine and it's whole purpose is to match real world physics. Eevee is a real time render engine and as a result cuts some corners when calculating things like lighting, reflections, and sub surface scattering to name a few. It's blazing fast but not the most accurate. Ultimately none of this matters if you like the renders you are making!

@@pixelmethat yeah ok, so it's my idea probably where I like the bloom in for exemple a universe some orefer the not so bright ones... Matter of taste and a matter of project I suppose. And what your equipment can handle (and your wallet :) Well in all cases I am new to Blender, but always flabbergasted with what people like you know and are willing to share. Was even my 1st try on geo nodes. So I am more greatful than ever. Also subscribed. Thanks again.

@3:49 I don't know why, I've followed the instructions up to this point, but for me, the gradient doesn't even start to show up unless I put the black all the way up to _at least_ .9, and even then it's not so much a gradient as all gray/black except for the one white patch

Is there any way to have the lights control the color? For instance, when you added the second light to the left of the skull, let’s say I wanted that to be blue while the rest remained red and black. Any way todo that?

Hi, blender beginner here. I followed your tutorial and got some nice looking eyeballs. But I have a problem when I move the eyeball and apply location to it, the colored part of the eyeball disappears. I think it's because the location of the eyeball changed but the location in the first mapping node stayed the same but I'm not sure. Do you have any fix for this or am I doing something wrong? How can I move/scale/rotate the eyeballs, apply all transforms and still have the colors?

**Anyone wondering why their outer layer isnt't see through go into your render settings in evee and click screen space reflections, then turn on refractions also by clicking the small pull down menu arrow to the left. *** Thank you so much! There were a couple of parts where you said you changed the scale of Y on the second set of mapping nodes (you actually 0'd out the Z.) when I did those things that you did like that it messed things up... I tried moving all of those around because I wasn't getting the lines you were and also when you moved the z on the first mapping node set doing that messed up the gradient effect. I dont understand why that was necessary or what it actually did can you explain further? thank you again for this awesome tutorial it took me like 3 hours but that''s the learning curve when using newer versions I suppose.
