It's hilarious that people are STILL bitter about the existence of AEW, and still being haters. It's such a weird cultist thing to be so attached to a single promotion that you actively hate on all the other ones, instead of just enjoying them all or appreciating the fact that there is any competition at all.

Now that you brought up the fact that Cody's motivation behind winning the title was never targeted towards Roman and he just so happened to be the champion, imagine if Sami or Jey took the title from Roman sooner and Cody has an inner conflict with what was more important to him. His friends or winning the title for his father? It would make for an amazing storyline that brings everything full circle and leaves everyone questioning on who to root for. Jey, the sympathetic hero that was there to witness roman's reign (no pun intended) from the very beginning and has been manipulated,psychologically tortured, betrayed by his own brother and had to really dig deep to find and stand up for himself against the tribal chief and arguably deserves to be the champion more than anybody. Then Sami, the charismatic underdog who was never suppose to be considered on the same level as roman or cody but organically connected with the crowd by being a genuine person and getting himself over. And then you have cody for obvious reasons but could potentially lead to cody turning heel as he has no choice but to turn on his friends for the sake of his own selfish goals influenced by his family, just like roman. Damn, that was long my fault yall😅

I did not realise none of the Rhodes family have won the main belt in WWE, the whole finish the story makes way more sense now, than just him losing to Shenanigans, I mostly just really want the 3.5 year reign to just end, that's too long

Cody pretty much explained it on that promo on Raw after Wrestlemania 38. They even showed that picture of Dusty holding up the title in 1977. This is a story literally almost 50 years in the making which is insane to think about.

that's only part of it and honestly I'm glad they've kind of gone away from the whole "winning it for my dad" angle. This story is and should be about Cody's story, not Dusty's. If anything, Cody's journey on it's own is just as fascinating. From all the failed runs during his first WWE run, to leaving and branching out on his own, to making a name for himself in then Indy's, to being one of the founding members of AEW, to his eventually leaving there and returning to WWE, to failing at last year's Wrestlemania. The long-term set up has been really like nothing we've ever seen.
