I'm moving countries in 6 weeks and I can't wait to start my pantry from scratch! Fingertip injury - my son lost the fleshy bit of his middle finger six years ago while only seven years old. He came through the door and the draught banged the door shut with his finger tip caught in it. My husband took him to the emergency room and the doc took skin graft from his wrist, so both places had stitches they had to remove. After the finger stitches were removed it still needed some bandages to heal. At that same night he had his stitches out he was playing on the floor with his 1.5yo brother who accidentally stepped on his finger and the whole skin graft came off! Somehow the finger healed, it's been six years, the skin is harder from the tip and there is a little loss of the sensation, the nail looks completely different to his other fingers (due to not being able to cut it for over three weeks). My other son fell on his stomach at a store right at the bottom of the escalator and his fingernail came completely off. Thankfully he was only 2 and doesn't remember a thing and luckily the finger is completely normal. It's a blank in my mind, I was traumatised and don't remember how we took care of it at all.

I love to find unique items while grocery shopping but they tend to stay in the pantry because I married a man who only eats about 5 things. I can make these in my sleep. We don't entertain as we just relocated, so I don't have a friend I can cook for. I only eat small meals within the day...so I need to own up to this and keep on hand the things we really eat and stop having to throw expired things away!!! Thank you for this wake-up call.

We also have tax on groceries. I buy the Butterball frozen boneless turkey breast and use it for sandwiches and sliced thicker for dinner. Much cheaper than deli meat.

When my Mexican store has chicken breast on sale I get the 40 pound chicken for 49.00 I live in Florida so things are more expensive here

I actually feel worse if I get 8 hours of sleep. Unless I’m sick or recovering, I’m more productive on less than 8 hours. About 6 is my limit.

Buying meat to stock up is smart.then you just need to buy milk and sides and drinks which is way cheaper than meat...great job.

Not a fingertip, but hand nerve damage: in HS, I worked in a fast food place. I was prepping the veggies for the salad bar (remember those in the 90’s everywhere?) and the giant sized roll of Saran Wrap slipped. The metal blade that cuts the plastic slid down the side of my thumb and sliced it open. It took several stitches to close, and we went about life as usual. About a year later I mentioned to my dad that I wondered if the feeling would ever come back to the side of my thumb. I didn’t realize it’s not normal to have a large spot of numbness from a cut ( in my defense, I was 16). I ended up having some nerve damage from it. I’m now 50, and still have very little sensation on the entire side of my right thumb. Ps- getting old sucks.

You are not crazy for buying all that Cereal....lol My son loves cereal and he is the only one that really eats it. But I do the same when it is on sale I buy ALOT,,,, He eats it every day. With the prices of cereal anymore you have to stock up when it is on sale.

I tried storing block cheese in the freezer, but after it thawed out, I found that it didn't shred right. It would crumble as I was trying to shred it. Is that normal for everyone, or maybe it was just the brand that I was using.

Two years ago I got my left hand caught in an electric hedge trimmer. Thankfully my wedding rings saved my fingers. I had 16 stitches, crazy glued cuts and bandaids on smaller abrasions. My rings had to be cut off. I spent more than a year doing chiro, physio, massage and occupational health therapy but I still have my fingers and can use them fully thanks to a lot of hard work!

Is it really cheaper to buy half gallons of milk even when on sale? I find a gallon is usually cheaper with a coupon in my area.

You can window shop without spending money if you don't bring cash or credit with you. I go often and enjoy looking but rarely buy anything. It's a way to get exercise without being outside.

I’ve been looking into the lifewave X 39 patches and it’s something to think about for healing and pain. I seen some incredible stories and my personal trainer has someone that he could hardly do anything and now he’s leg pressing 580 pounds so is it real not real? I don’t know but it works for some.

I agree Christine it sucks getting old. Apparently, after 60 years (as I was told) what the heck did you expect to happen! Not this! I’ve been good to my body. This sucks. I’ve been on and off bed rest with pericarditis (heart lining inflammation) for the last year. It sucks. So frustrating!

There are a lot of good videos on rehabilitation of hip joint pain and strengthening. As we get older it seems inevitable that we wear out. A lot of knee pain can be caused by hip stiffness etc. I have found the videos very helpful even just showing me how to walk correctly to lessen pain. Hope you heal quickly so you can enjoy your usual activities!

Perfect timing Christine! I took a mini staycation to tackle closet clean out, freezer and pantry clean out/organization. It’s gotten a little out of hand, lol. Plus I’m an avid canner so time to rotate and take stock. The garden is in, I cut way back on what I’m growing in order to can/preserve what I actually use the most. In the crock pot is a pork loin with the Victorian BBQ sauce I canned last year (rhubarb based). So delicious! It’ll be wraps tomorrow. My neighbor lets me have all his rhubarb and it’s harvest day tomorrow. Yes, you do a little at a time and you spend WAY less at the store. Im literally down to mostly buying loss leaders at the store. I wait for the sales. Which is good because my vehicle bit the dust and I just had to get a new car. Haven’t had a car payment in probably 20 years so at least I’m (or was) debt free. New goal! Your total was amazing. I was behind a person at Walmart who spent that on basically junk which would maybe have lasted him two weeks tops. My mother and I just looked at each other and said “wow’ with our eyes 😂. Way too much processed food imo but perhaps he can’t cook? Compared to the other aisle who spent about the same but purchased real foods…lots of meats, potatoes, rice, etc. You could tell he cooked. We had a fun conversation about the difference between the shoppers. I know who’s house I’d want to be invited to for dinner, lol. I’m not judging anyone for their choices but it hurt my heart to see how much cash I could’ve saved that first shopper by either teaching him to cook or teaching him how to shop. 😉

I'm 71 and somehow managed to tear the muscles/tendons/ligaments (I have NO idea which it is) from my hip bone and now have to have surgery to stick it all back together. Will be using a walker for a couple weeks, then a cane for another 4 and THEN!! (oh joy) we can talk about therapy.... can you tell I'm beyond thrilled about this whole thing? I gave my doctor a printout of a meme from Facebook... "have I sustained an injury or is this just how I am now?" and he thought that was a hoot <grin>

Horror story from 17 yrs ago when my son was 3 1/2. Remember the old toilets where the part you sit on was heavy as heck. He woke from his nap and went in and lifted both up and rested his .. you know on the rim and in he forgot and let go of the lids which came crashing down. The screams that came out ... I ran and there was blood everywhere. Rushed him to emergency and the put some stitches in and said they didnt know what his prognosis would be. Fast forward 2 years and he was at my moms for summer vacation and she called to say that she had gone to wake him up and he was sound asleep, but I could stop worrying about it.

I like to stock up on things when I can as well. As a single older person on a fixed income I have to be strategic. The one thing I can't copy you for is freezing whole packages of meat. I have to break them down into smaller portions for 1 or 2 servings. I have been meal planning for quite some time and it makes things so much easier. A few years ago I went though my pantry and both freezers and did a complete inventory that I keep on a spreadsheet. That way I can see what I have and plan around that. I found that bread, milk and cheese all freeze very well. I hope your hip gets better so you can enjoy the summer.

40# of boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs? I break out the pressure canner, and jars! Done that 3x! Makes the BEST chicken broth and chicken that is quick to the table. Better taste & texture than factory canned, no extra chemicals. Fabulous in casseroles, too. 🎉

I also don't really know retail prices...just what I am willing to pay based on the sales I know I can get at some point. I got these great deep dish frozen pizzas on clearance for 3.99 less 3.00 I ibotta netting at 99cents each. They were also amazing so went back and stocked up on the last few they had. My proudest moment 😊 but now I don't think I am willing to pay more than about $2 for them even though they are usually pricey....that's the problem with deals--i get stuck on the low price.
