Lo dico da juventino. L'attaccante più forte (in tutti i sensi: più completo, potente, tecnico, elegante) che ho visto giocare. Invidio i tifosi delle squadre in cui ha giocato. Una grande ingiustizia del calcio che abbia dovuto smettere prima del tempo.

For me the strike against the USSR was still the best, despite some other great goals here. It was a high ball that came to him, not easy to hit, it would have been more than enough if he'd managed to put a volleyed cross into a dangerous area, but he unexpectedly aimed for goal and struck it beautifully into the far corner. For it to be in the final of the competition capped it off (one can hear the surprise in the voice of the commentator, I don't think it had occurred to him that Van Basten might shoot from there). It typified the brilliance which had already cemented him in the minds of everyone at the time as the striker without peer.

Personally the best goal was that One against the URSS. Not even in our days have we seen a goal like that. On the other hand, Chilean or scissors goals, although spectacular, are seen every year. But, that goal against the USSR, the poor angle it had to enter where it entered, and the fact that Marco hits in the air and "first touch the ball", make it an unforgettable goal.
