He ejected Papelbon when he was with the Phillies when Pap grabbed his crotch making an obscene gesture to Phillies fans. That was a great call by West ejecting someone for disrespecting the game and the fans.

Yea because everyone decides there opinions on religion through sports…
@hollybigelow5337
@hollybigelow5337 6 ай бұрын
@@muddywaters2818 Keep in mind that many, many people have argued and continue to argue that the BYU sports program need to exist because it is one of the most powerful missionary tools the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has. As a member of that religion I have always found that argument repugnant and even blasphemous. Heck, I once saw a documentary made by BYU on their sports program (well part of it in passing), and the program said that when the President of BYU asked the Prophet and Quorum of the Twelve dir permission to start an athletics program at BYU they flat out said no, and the President of BYU went ahead and started one anyway in spite of the fact that he was not supposed to have the power to defy the brethren that way in a church-run, church-funded school. The documentary then tried to portray that President of BYU as a hero and a visionary who proved the brethren wrong when they saw what a powerful missionary tool the BYU sports program has become. So yes, I 100% agree with the sentiment behind your comment. But it’s important to know there are MANY diehard BYU fans who don’t think that it’s self-evident that people don’t base their religion on sports teams. There are even some extremists who argue that BYU’s players are far more Christlike than any other sports players out there. And there are extremists who argue that BYU’s successful on and off the field/court/etc. proves the church is true and is a result of the players “living right.” Of course, keep in mind there are plenty of members of that same religion like me who always respond to those types of comments by pointing out that in that case clearly Notre Dame’s success proves Catholicism is even more true. We also point to clips like this to address the very real point that not only is the BYU sports program not a missionary tool, it’s at times the opposite of a missionary tool. And BYU’s players certainly aren’t perfect little angels who are more Christlike than any other team. And when I’m dealing with a particularly nasty BYU fan making these types of claims, I may also drop that bomb that the BYU sports program only exists because the BYU President at the time deliberately defied a direct order from the Prophet and Apostles who were assigned to be on the Board of Directors at the time. Anyway, the point is taken out of context the original post may seem a bit ridiculous like it doesn’t need to be said. But if you are familiar with how often some BYU fans clay their players are a huge boon for Christianity’s image the comment is fully justified as part of an ongoing discussion on the topic.

Joe West was like the Ed Hochuli of the MLB. He was respected by players and managers as well as fans. Sure he made a few bad calls or his strike zone was off on a few occasions. Still no one better.
