Gee Bill, you haven't been the same since your son went crazy in Vietnam.

Was that Dana Carvey as the “tickets please” guy?
@mikeberg500318 күн бұрын
I was thinking the one guy in the back strapping him in looked like Carvey. This stunt was in 1976, Carvey would have been 21 so maybe?

This song belongs to Dennis Wilson. It is because of him - NOT John Stamos - that it is so good.

Old white lady here who loved this send up -- even as I love the songs in their white originals that are being sent up. I'm old enough to go back further, to songs like "I Dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair," which my mother (named Jean, born over 100 years ago -- I only remember her with dark brown and then grey hair) remembered her father, my Grandpapi, singing it to her when she was little. My mother, raised in the Bronx, also remembered to me (little teen white girl in NJ in the 1960's) trying to sneak into Harlem clubs in the 1930's. Life is sweet, when we remember through music, through shared music, and we follow music's myriad paths. Did I say I love the white originals? Did I say I love this send up? Music leads us to imagine together, or it can. If we welcome its myriad paths.

I saw the original broadcast. I was watching Van Dyke's show, and they interrupted a sketch to show this. I remember thinking it was a real stunt at first, until the kids and nuns piled in. Brilliant!

What would possibly have helped with the career of Glenn Ford would be if Sheriff Sam Cade went to Georgia to get a suspect extradited from Hazzard County back to Madrid County for a homicide trial, which would have meant a guest appearance on “THE DUKES OF HAZZARD”; provided that the legendary celebrity speed trap had nailed the old peapicker himself, Tennessee Ernie Ford as he had been ticketed with driving through a phony school zone just like with the late singer Buck Owens. Now, let’s all be honest with one another, wouldn’t it have been nice if Sheriff Sam Cade had visited Hazzard County and confronted Rosco as well as Boss Hogg about letting him take the suspect in question back to Madrid County for trial?
