Thank you for sharing, the Fusion 360 files. I have just started with an ATC tool changer and indeed the brush is in the way, I will definitely print it and see if it works for me. Thanks for all your work and sharing your knowledge.

Sure; it says in the link, but it is "Vectric VCarve 11.5", which can also be opened in VCarve 12 and Aspire. There is also a Fusion version, which can be opened in any version of Fusion, since that app is always up to date.

Thank you for content/knowledge 🙏 ... I'm trying to get Fusion 360 to import the Avid .cps (post processor) files for my Benchtop Pro and it seem like .cps files have come out of favor for Fusion. I'm going to try starting with a generic processor and tweak it towards Avid, but curious if you ran into a similar issue and possibly had a suggestion for getting the data in the cps file to import or know of a better resource for acquiring a Port Processor for Avid. Thanks Again! (love the knowledge and creativity)
@CorbinDunn
@CorbinDunn 5 күн бұрын
Yeah! You don't need to use my post processor anymore; the one provided from Avid's website should work fine, and I believe they have an updated one coming soon. www.avidcnc.com/support/instructions/software/downloads/fusion/ If that doesn't work, email me and I can export mine and send it to you.

Nice job. 2 questions about tools. What is the deepest pass full width you can take with that drum sander before it slows down? Do you tend to get chatter/high pitch with that 1/4" down cut bit?
@CorbinDunn
@CorbinDunn 5 күн бұрын
Yeah! I really only use the drum sander for really light passes; like 0.010, using 150. My friend was using it to flatten some boards the other day, and with 150 grit, and it quickly started bogging down; probably because 150 was too fine. The paper was trashed in 10 minutes and had to be replaced. The planer is the way to go for flattening. Chatter: yes, that 1/4" bit always likes to squeal. I realized I could get it to be a little quieter by running it at 14,000 RPM instead of 18,000, but using the same chip load. That seems to work better for that particular bit.

Hi Corbin, its me again. How long you need to machine your Bowls and how many time you need to finish your product. Is 200 Dollar to less for so many hours of work?
@CorbinDunn
@CorbinDunn 6 күн бұрын
Yeah! I don't keep good track of time for stuff. I'd say it is a few hours for each operation: ~2 hours for the "mountains", ~2 hours for the bottom, ~2 hours for the top. Most the machining time is just hit the button and let it go. It takes me a few hours to glue things up and prep the work, and a few hours to sand and finish the work. So, it takes a while to make these, and there are are lot of things I could do to optimize work if I wanted to produce a lot of them. $200 per bowl isn't a lot considering the amount of time I spend on them. They are roughly USD $50-$80 in materials (wood/epoxy), So, if it takes me 8 hours to make one bowl...I'm really only making $15/hr or so, which isn't great. I'm sure I could optimize the time in batches, and get it down to a few hours per bowl, if I really tried. My goal is more of an artistic creation and to inspire people to make something, than to actually make money by selling the creations. It'd be great to sell a few of them just to pay for materials for me to make the next project.
@CorbinDunn
@CorbinDunn 6 күн бұрын
...and I don't sell a lot of physical products. I only make a few that I try to sell, and I only attempt to sell them via my website (and a few on Etsy), and in general, I don't sell many. Sometimes every now and again I will sell one (mostly to my friends). But, making and selling stuff isn't my goal. My goal is to have fun designing things, and sharing it with others.

Hey Corbin! Your avid videos have been super helpful, and your ATC setup is pretty clever. In the video, you mentioned that the Fusion360 files for the avid machine you got would be in the description or a link to it. However, the only link I see to a fusion file says I don't have permission to see the file. Do you have the model of the machine? I want to do something similar for a base, but would like to model it out first.

what about the static electricity in the vacuum hose ?
@CorbinDunn
@CorbinDunn 19 күн бұрын
It can definitely be a problem! I should show a photo of my setup: I ran a thin copper wire around my dust hose, just loosely wrapping it, and going to an outlet on the wall, connecting it to the EMT with a screw or bolt. Before I did that I would get little shocks from the static whenever I touched the boot after it was running for a while. After I did the grounding that problem went away. It never affected the machine, but more sensitive machines sometimes simply stop due to this issue.

What program are you using for CAM? The toolpaths and CAM is setup in Vectric VCarve, but I also include the STL file so you can do the toolpaths in whatever software you prefer, however, the inlay won't be possible as it is a vector stored in VCarve. Pretty much any CNC should be able to machine this; it isn't too big.

Hm... I do not understand how you position the stock precesely when you need to flip it. Unless you don't... Correct me if I am wrong. When you shape the bottom, you leave the perfectly machined rectangular base. After flipping the stock, this base becomes the top and you position the bit to the selected corner? In this case, every imperfection in this positioning will lead to the bowl's assymetry. How do you position the bit? Do you use some V-shape bit for positioning and then change the bit? And by the way - great videos! All 3! P.S. Silly me... There is another video, where you will probably show all that. I will leave the comment anyway, but I guess you don't need to reply. :-)
@CorbinDunn
@CorbinDunn Ай бұрын
Yes! I do have another video on that part; I do use an expensive Haimer 3D sensor to indicate in the top. I've since moved on to doing this in easier ways; My preferred method now is to create a "jig" that aligns the bottom precisely, using dowel holes. Let me dig up an example video on how to do it...and at some point I should do an updated tutorial.
@CorbinDunn
@CorbinDunn Ай бұрын
Here's the video w/the jig concept: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJ1iq5h4qavFZ30.html A 3rd way to do it is to use tabs; I generally don't like that because you have to cut and sand them off, which is more work. My next bowl, which is in the works now, will use tabs just to simply try it out.

Brillian work! On those soft jaws for the hinge machining, there's a trick I've used a few times. In Fusion 360 do an inspect and measure the Z height from your WCS point to a point on the top machined surface. Then get your WCS probed on the machine, load the tool you'll be using, and manually position the machine in X,Y,Z with the position you measured in Fusion. Then just slide the part up until it touches the tool, just using it as a stop for positioning. Hope that makes sense!

That does make sense, and that is a great idea! I'll have to give it a try next time. Thanks for the tip!

why did you use such thick wood. It seems that would be a large amount of sawdust and waste. Am I missing something? I love the video and the end result but I'm afraid it's a bit to complex for me. I'm ok with vetric, but 360 is just too much for me at this point in my life.
@CorbinDunn
@CorbinDunn Ай бұрын
Yeah! I get the wood from a local (Reno, NV) hardwood lumber yard. They sell cherry in most standard nominal sizes: 4/4 (actual 0.75"), 6/4 (1.25") and 8/4 (1.75"). I did glue up some of the pieces to make larger stock; I left it off camera because I didn't think it was interesting to watch. You are right; It produces a ton of chips and sawdust. Not much a way around that. I'm thinking of doing some "Fusion 360 for Vectric Users" videos at some point. It can be tricky to get started.
