Flew on this old bird many times, Singapore, Belize, Ascension Island etc. She took my wife and kids to UK from Singapore in October 1971. I followed them, on the very same aircraft 15 Dec ‘71.

I was on this fight! It was a charter fight home from Sanford airport Florida because XL airlines went bust. Lots of people who were meant to be on the fight turned around after seeing the aircraft and bought fights home at Orlando international. The aircraft was used not long before to transport US troops from and to Afghanistan. The aircraft inside was in really bad condition and when we were sat on the tarmac in Florida the crew were wafting the emergency leaflets at the passengers because it had no air conditioning. Just thought I’d give you a bit of background on this exact flight.

Wow I was on that flight, it was a charter fight from Sanford Florida when XL airways went bust in 2008, a lot of people turned around flying home on it as it looked like a complete nail. I’m amazed this is on here, thanks for sharing.

Was watching a Martin Zero video on this section of the canal (where he was heading up to the Worsley Delph), and was curious of how a swing aqueduct would work, and perfect!; Heres a video of the exact swing aqueduct I was wondering on. haha

One must remember that any Garrat designt is effectively TWO locomotives, with a suitably proportioned Boiler to supply both Cylinder sets. The only comparison would be with a Mallet or Simple Articulated. ( alsoTwo Engines, one Boiler. The one disadvantage of the Garrett Design is the loss of adhesion asthe water in forward and rear tenders is consumed...not a problem on near level country, but becomes acute in mountainous grades. The soread of Axle weights makes it suitable for Narrow Gauge/ lightly built systems; and the Standard & Russian/Latin American Broad Gauges makes a loco up there with the bigger US articulateds. Doc AV Garrett Fan.
