I love these videos Pete; the descriptions evoke the taste beautifully (old ladies handbags 🤣). Trouble is, I'm an old forgetful git who can never remember the recommendations, so got the wrong Bordeaux - Comte de Saint Emmanuel; one of The Best range. Very nice, but I must now go back to get your recommendation and compare. I did the same in Waitrose and bought a bottle that was £8.99 down from £12.99. Again, not on your list but bloody delicious! Your videos are making me try out new wines 😍

i dont know how you can smell anything that isnt added to the wine already. u smell an herb but there are no herbs added to the barrell

Good vid, as always, Pete. Just tasted the Pinot Noir, I got cherries. Drank it side by side with the Asda le Manoir Pinot Noir. Both less than £5! Thought fruit less obvious on the Asda offering, faint strawberries. The Lidl at 12.5 %, compared with Asda at 11%. Both just great value if you like the PN style. But I think the Lidl PN just wins!

I enjoyed this, thank you. I have lived in the US for ~40 yrs but still have a home in the UK. I generally shop in the 10-20 pound range when in England, and find Waitrose to be the best choice, esp. in Manzanillas, a favorite of mine. M&S has Waitrose in the Rioja dept, though, IMO. Morrisons has a very clued-up wine buyer too. I was blown away a few weeks ago by what COSTCO has on offer. Given the huge duty+VAT in England some of the prices are simply amazing. e.g., Faustino I for GBP14. Not all COSTCOs are created equal though. Coventry has a great selection, B'ham is just not a very nice store. Thanks again for your work on this channel.

I usually get Blossom Hill from Asda i notice the flavour was not as good as usual its usualy very consistant i know its cheap and you get what you pay for and all that but upon looking at the bottle it is normally 12.5%proof but this bottle was only 10.5%proof. if red wine came in at less than 12% i thought it was shipped for viniger. looking for another brand on the shelves i noticed a lot of other red wines were also low proofs Whats going on?

Thanks Allan, you're not the first person to comment on a reduction in % in some wines. Two things, first it's just cheaper to make lower alc wines so producers cutting costs (but I'd guess it's not cheaper for you?), second, now we're out of the EU non-EU producers can play with the rules a bit and this may mean simply watering wines down which can be done in a number of ways. I'm not suggesting that's what Blossom H have done, but there's a lot more room for crafty manoeuvres now.

Sorry, Pete. I tried the Gamay over Xmas but I found it bitter and unpleasant. Preferring a lighter red wine, I was itching to try Gamay, but it's not that easy to find in the shops. I was very disappointed but not having tried Gamay before I don't really have a frame of reference. I did try the Bouchard Aine Et Fils Pinot Noir. That was lovely & one of the best Pinot's I've had.

Bit of a fan of the "Found" range, Pete? I've had a few & they are really nice and a decent bargain at the price. M&S are doing great things with nice wines at affordable prices nowadays.

Hi Pete. The pinot bottle you have in front of you there is the Wine Selectors Marlborough not the Deluxe Hawkes Bay. The first is a 2017 vintage and the second is 2021. Totally different. Was confused in store on Sunday. Ended up buying the Comte Tolosan which was a bit disappointing.

Same here. I thought it was spoiled or something. I tried tio pepe and it was produced 2 years ago. Maybe that was the case because I couldn’t get fresh notes, the only thing that I tasted was a yeast but not a good one…

Funnily enough, I've been buying a Viognier from Aldi over the last few weeks. It's Chilean and is £6.49. The also do a South African Viognier which doesn't have the fresh, crisp and fruity flavour of the Chilean version. Nice budget wine to enjoy well chilled.
