If you EVER see his solo debut record, 14 Songs, pick it up immediately. It's brilliant from start to finish. That song about his dad here sounds a little like "Positively 4th Street" by Dylan.

I enjoyed the introduction where the interviewer clearly understands the legend of the guy he's about to interview...

Nothing epitomizes the life of an accidental drunk than this song. We don't want to be this way but some times the drink is the tail to the dog. Drink or don't keep trying even during the worst times.

A few weeks ago I stopped in the CC Club for a beer and couldn't stop rolling this song thru my head. I've always imagined that that bar was the origin of this song.

With all due respect to Slim, Bob was the only lead guitarist who fit the replacements!
Thanks for posting. I saw him when he played The Troubadour in 1996? I think it was. He sounded just like this, really polished with that trademark rawness. They played a great version of “I Will Dare” early in the set. Thanks for sharing.

Such a great understated and under appreciated song and artist. If not for the grunge explosion during time, this song would have been played into the stratosphere. Which maybe…is a good thing. Still a rare gem.

This is more Mick Jones take on the song, than Joe's. The group was very unhappy at the Us Festival. They even clashed backstage with their fellow artists. I remember Elvis Costello coming out on stage , and bouncing up to the mike and saying brightly, "Hi! we're The Clash!"

Read the Book "Trouble boys" by Bob Mehr. It was almost a day by day account of the very drunken days of the Replacements. It even included the insane day I saw them at the Michigan Theater, right before they kicked Bob out. (Bob was at the bar down the street when the show started and they auditioned guitars players from the crowd while Bob was missing)

Not cool what they did to Bob. Hypocrites.
