Nice! I picked up a 2012 and modified it to a swing arm chopper… love it!

Deep ,and staccato (with a bite ) ! That marks the Sportster sound , once you get rid of the stock choker's , and Rush delivers it well . Good choice , very good choice !!

Dear Sir, I agree with your comments on the Sportster. I have a 1996 Harley Davidson Softail 80hp and as I get older it's getting too heavy for me in case it leans too far over and can't handle it. I'm 73 and downsizing. A Sportster would be great for me. I also just want to ride around town so a small gas tank is OK. Thank you for the video. Gil in Massachusetts

Should have cleaned up under that tank and did a wire tuck and small tank lift and it would have had the appearance of chopper for real…

The 72 does have quick steering for a Harley but the design is safe. It isn't meant for sustained high speed highway riding. Rider fatigue can set in and the rider will begin to death grip the bars and over react to everything. I've hit 100 on mine but only briefly. The 72 is a totally stupid choice for a long distance road burner. It is what it is. It's like a chopper. Fun to ride in short doses or at mellow speeds. Keep it below 70 and it's a heckuva fun ride. Or change the bars. Sheesh. The seat it came with was an absolute joke. I knew that when I laid eyes on it.

Tough lesson bro. Buy the bike for the riding you do. It's not the bikes fault.

I just bought a 2012 sportster 72 in June of 2023,had 1765 miles on it,candy apple red,came with python full exhaust,I put on an after market seat and air cleaner, this sportster 72 is very fun to ride, the 3 reasons this dude says to not buy it are common sense,of course you can't ride 2 up,2.1 gallon tank so a 200 mile ride is a bad idea,and a windy is gonna blow a 565 pound bike around on the highway...right,I also have a 2020 Heritage classic ,the 72 is a fun 2nd bike love it

I have some of the amazon ones and they turn completely orange like the custom dynamics, I think it just depends which ones you order. Front and rear were 49.99 together and look the same as Custom Dynamics.

I just bought a metalflake orange '14. It came with loud pipes (overly loud) So I was waiting to hear more about the Rush pipes you have on there. I'm like you, the seat had to go. I also changed the shocks to Progressive 12 1/2s to ride better with my big heavy butt on it, and it sure does! Are those Rush slip ons quiet enough to putt through the neighborhood at midnight without getting shot at?

Traded in the Sportster for a Softail. Traded the Softail in next summer for a Bagger. All due to rider comfort, tank size and passenger comfort. I miss the light and whippy ride of the Sportster, I miss the badass blacked out look of the Softail but ultimately feel the bagger is the best overall for my type of two-up highway riding. Wish I could afford to keep all three!

The wobble seemed to be coming from the shitty Dunlop front tire. Switching to a 90/90 21 tire fixes the issue majority of the time. Narrow front, big skinny wheel and shitty tire is always a recipe for disaster

Aluminum fuel canisters can mount on your 72, or install a larger tank? Your suspension handling issues would go away by just pulling back at higher speeds. And get your wife a nice bike too so you can have your own fun and not stress her life every second you’re riding? Best choice I’ve made. You just made excuses not to deal with it.

Forget the wobble comments and test ride one. 40+ years in the saddle, most on sportsters and big twins. Put 10 times the miles on the sporties. To each his own just get out and ride. Keep the dirty side down yall.

I agree on all but the instable part. I have one and tend to haul ass at times. 90mph ish, but I did change my tires a long time ago to the super grippy michelin commander 3. I went with a slightly taller from tire. I love the bike the biggest killer for me is that tank. I want to find a 3.3 peanut from a nightster or iron and have it matched just so I can get at least 100mp tank.

As far as getting looks at stop lights, you can make a low rider look every bit as good if not better than your old 72.

own more then one bike. I got a 13 72...a 12 48... a 15 softail slim. A 09 xr1200.. they also have a side bag you can fit on on the sportys... and gas containers. For extra fuel... the 72 is for people who love the 70s customs... and compared to a rigids out actual old customs... is awesomely reliable and smooth and all the modern shit people want. So... to each is own... is more of a style... not to mention. The way Harley is going with the sport line up... having a 72... or iron... or nightster... or whatever... in good condition... is cool for people who love the sportys... minus the super low...(wack)

@noteasilyoffended46492 жыл бұрын
These are the same tired complaints from the same types of people about sportsters since forever. Literally all of your reasons are based off lack of self-awareness. You bought a bike without knowing what YOU needed/wanted. That's not a failure of harley, or the bike. It's not faults of the 72. It's YOUR failure. If you want to go long distance, why would you buy a bike with a small tank? If you want to ride 2-up, why would you buy a sportster? If youre worried about high-speed wobble, why would you buy a lightweight, narrow bike.
@vincentyap31882 жыл бұрын
not stable? just lower the rear will increase it rake, it will be stable, check my channel at my bike number 2, it a skinny bike, at haft throttle it go 130km per hour and it is stable, if you lower the front, decrease the rake, and yeap it wil be not stable, the 72 you can change to longer fork, lowering the rear with lowering block, it can be with you it is stable and look more beautiful, for fuel install cold air intake, and loosing the wheel bearing it will use less fuel, dude problem can be solve depend how you solve the problem

I ride two up all the time on a Sportster. The Sporster Custom with its 4.5 gallon tank solves the problem. No instability either. I did have a Sportster Low model that was unstable. Its steering was way too sensitive... I suspected the bearing head adjustment was wrong. Swingarm bushings or worn or loose engine mounts can also cause a wobble. All Harley Davidsons have the problem so beware and keep an eye on it. In fact, the Sportster typically has less problems than the bigger bikes do, but they all can have wobble if something is out of spec or worn.

I've had both a 72 and a Dyna. The only thing I agree with you on is the small gas tank and limited range. Never had a problem on even my 883 Sportsters with two-up riding, and I never experienced any wobble on the freeway. That said, the Dyna was far more comfortable on the freeway and could ride all day. Excellent bike.
