Rogue Trader, heavily influenced by Metal Hurlant, especially Philippe Druillet artwork. Likewise 1970s Dr. Who, especially Cybermen, Daleks and Zygons. Likewise Gamma World, the TSR spin-off of Metamorphosis Alpha. I miss the mutant generation tables, guaranteed novel warbands. Likewise Star Wars and Dune. The scratchbuilt vehicles and scenery were epic. I miss this version! It was clunky and cool. The Slaan being written off as Old Ones saddened me as they were very Lovecraftian.

I got a great deal. I got one of these all metal rouge trader bikes and the 2 beak helmeted space marines AND 2 extra ones that are on foot, professionally painted for 40 bucks on ebay a few days ago. These are the first warhammer pieces I ever bought too, I just loved the way they looked and I have fallen in love with the old Rouge Trader stuff so I have began collecting old Rouge Trader pieces that I can proudly display. They have a unique style that I feel is lost in the newer stuff. I couldn't find much info on them, that's how I stumbled on this video. Thanks for helping me learn more about these old kits.

I use the same super glue a lot and the old binizzle also gets blocked too! Lovely job on this squad too and I think those swords look really groovy!! I really have a temptation to paint a small amount of them sometime.... along with everything else I want to paint 😂 I'm pretty certain that I used to use Halfords primer in the good old days... maybe it might work better on something larger... like that Warhound titan you'll be getting soon?!

Ive been w 40k since right after rogue trader. In the late 70s to mid late 80s art like we see in, say, Codex Imperialis, those are real and if not on canvas its on a sheet of paper. When you plex feadlines and guiding/being guided by the modelers and every rendering is going to be a time consuming slog you (as a concept artist) have to be okay w what you make. Tempis Fugit and all that. The cracked earth pattern looks like a tool to fill un-energetic space in the paper art era. Not so different from the contour bands on classic Colossus' pure metal limbs. In the 2nd edition chaos codex they explore the raw sketchbook pages of some of their designers. Eye opening.
