This video made me reminisce about the lake trip I took as a kid. It looks like a great time and everyone was so happy and kind to each other… I sometimes struggle with students fighting in my classroom (or managing 5-6 students in general) and it’s really cool that you could take everyone on a picnic and to the lake without eloping. Thanks for sharing the fun! It’s always great hearing Maggie laugh and everyone’s excitement.

ABA being the only evidence based method isn't true. In 2016 Active Musical Therapy studies shows how many on the spectrum end up greatly increasing the quality of life for those on the spectrum. Learning music helps with: short term memory, aggression control, (that part was proven), selective attention, and sensory perception. (heavily evidenced). After that, you have theatre therapy. That improves communication. These therapies actually improve neuro connections in the brain that may be tenuous or underdeveloped due to their particular autism.

@Autmazing

I might post some of the happy birthday songs, because I did film those, but I just wasn’t quite up to filming the whole days this year. I think I’m still in a place where holidays are complicated and I just sort of want to get through them. Definitely hoping to have the energy/ bandwidth to make at least weekly videos again though.

I am getting an autism testing done also. The virtual appoment is on Aug 19th for an hour, and then after they will give me a date and time to go in the office to get tested. it will be between 6 - 12 hours so they was saying, I will be there from 8 A.M to probs 3 or 4 P.M and if we didn't get done then I will have to come back the next day, So I will have to bring a drink and lunch with me. I know I have autism, my dad also knows I have autism also. He knew since I was a baby but all they said was oh she has ID. I didn't walked until age 3 or 4 and I couldn't talk until I was 4 but even when I started talking, No one could understand me, I had ST when i was a baby/toddler and my dad beilives if I didn't had ST when I was little, then I probs wouldn't been able to talk. I had been having meltdowns everyday which sucks. I do a lot of Stimming, Going to stores are 100% stressful for me. I have noise canceling headphones that I do wear a lot. And after the evaluation, I am going to be starting ABA.

Science has recently answered the autistic You Looook Young thingy. Discovered during other research that ALL autistics carry the EDS ehrlos danlos gene. Eds creates an excess of collagen in joints, body thereby creating elastisized skin, therefore we look young. This may vary by individual but obviously is widespread. You do not have to have full spectrum eds/hds. My heart bleeds for asd non asd with that heavy. So there it is. Myself male autistic. At 28 can't get into a club with i.d. I look 16. Doorman says, kid, go home, help your Mom and do your homework! At 49 working with teens they are sure I am 26. Plead to see my i.d., so many OMG. Myself I have always dressed and really behaved younger so adds to it. Bet people can share funny stories the myths of younger will persist unless maybe a super followed you tuber puts truth out.

With such good clarity in and understanding with her words, why isn't a therapist adding a word to existing words? Ex..instead of just " bathroom " or "park".."go bathroom" " or" go park". The goal being to have more interaction with others. I can't imagine that it may have to be a consideration in the event that in the future she may need or want to go beyond her boundaries now..

Here's one thing that does help: broad autism training. I'm sure there are ordinary people who know how to handle meltdowns and could teach others who don't have this.

Lady, your intentions seem good. You need to listen to yourself thou. You are smart and articulated, perhaps thanks to ABA trainning you went through...however, you need to understand that when you voice out an opinion about something that can give quality of life and hope to a family, you need to base your reasons to not support. Your video does not sustain any reason for disregarding ABA as a proper choice for a family. in fact you confirm that ABA is "effective"!!! You making this video proves that. You are voicing your opinion on something very sensitive and important, using all your emotions only. I am sorry your ABA therapist could not help you with that, which is called responsability.

So what are parents supposed to do? As a father of an autistic son, I just want things to be “normal”. So if aba is so bad, what other options do I have treatment?
@amandamandamands
@amandamandamands Ай бұрын
Speech therapy if they need help with that, OT's are fantastic and there are some other therapy types that are starting to have some good research behind them. Also you need to let go of normal, every person is an individual regardless of if they are NT or ND so every person is going to act/behave differently in different situations. Also try and work out if he has sensory issues so that you can put supports in regarding those (common ones are that things are too noisy, clothes fabrics (especially tags) and having issues with smells/textures of food)

I babysit a child that goes to ABA, often when asked the Dad what he wants because the mom is absent, it’s “no” doesn’t do nothing with him just barks at him put your clothes on not tag in the back teaching hi at home, it’s so frustrating as a babysitter to watch this ABA, act as if I can’t get him there at 2:30 you sit in the parking lot even though a minute before you can’t come in what? I’m fixing to quit babysitting this child because these ppl are crazy!! Im the only steady in this child’s life! The grandmother and dad need help I’m up to my eyeballs with these ppl!! They won’t teach him at home but let someone else teach him!! Wrong wrong wrong!!!!!!!
