I think one of the elements that makes the hobbit easier to rewatch is that it’s not as heart wrenching - there’s levity and while there are iconic funny moments in lotr all of those characters suffer so much - while there’s death and tragedy in the hobbit it’s not as all consuming

Yes, True. The same as the books, The Hobbit is lighter and written for a wider audience (from children to adults), where LotR is denser and for a more specific audience (young people and adults). The themes are different too, where The Hobbit is about adventure and self-discovery, LotR is about sacrifice and resilience. Where The Hobbit has a central character with self-discovery typical of the Hero's Journey, LotR has several subplots with characters of relevance to the plot. I would say that where Bilbo is the protagonist of The Hobbit, Middle-earth is the protagonist of LotR (In The Hobbit the focus is on the central character, where LotR the vast descriptions of the place focus on Middle-earth). The Hobbit is more like a journey to treasure no villains are needed (Sauron is barely mentioned, Smaug is mere Mac Guffin, Trolls and spiders are there to be hindrances along the way, Orks perhaps, but even they are not like the "central villains", where LotR is more about Good vs Evil, good guys preventing the rise of evil (typical and cliché I would say). I love both books, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Just as I love both trilogies (plot changes and all, it's just entertainment for me and the more the merrier). The Hobbit is wonderful, book or movies, because it's about throwing yourself into the world and trying make the things right despite the odds that come your way. LotR is wonderful because it's about resilience, that nothing really bad can stop us if we're willing to keep going, no matter how bleak it all seems. I love both trilogies and books precisely because it bring different messages!❤

The most badly-acted role in the saga. Freeman's method acting is hardly appropriate and very annoying for Bilbo Baggins, who is an exaggerated caricature from a fairytale, not an aesthetic understatement from _The Office._

I hope this isn't offensive, but as a fan of LOTR, I wish The Hobbit films had NOT been made. I think it's unfortunate in a way that whomever making the deals insisted on a 3-picture deal, because I'm just not convinced the story justified that amount of spread. Peter Jackson didn't so much lose reputation so much as I felt his involvement was less personally-fulfilling. Then again, as I said I'm an outsider and I don't know any of the behind-the-scenes details.

“There is a lot about Martin that is very Bilbo like. Probably one of the closest people to a hobbit that I have ever met.” Couldn’t agree more, and I’ve actually recently been thinking just about that same thing I love him so much! Oh- funny thing happened to me last night, I know this is random, but, I was watching lord of the rings and my grandpa pointed to Aragorn and jokingly said something like “is that her boyfriend? She looks like she would have the hots for him.” To my mom and she casually responded “no, if anyone it’s Bilbo” and I awkwardly laughed, knowing it’s the truth 😅

@@_observer796 Fine with me. I like Jurassic Park 2 more than Jurassic Park 1. The original JP is a better film, but I'm nostalgic for JP 2 because it was the first JP movie I saw in the theater. It also reminds me of having a good time with my parents. I think the reasons for why we enjoy a movie go beyond just how objectively good it is. If I could only preserve one film for humanity, it would be JP 1, but if I could only preserve one film for myself, it would be JP 2.
