Just wanted to say thanks! I spent a day and a half trying to remember how to reassemble my alpha one after doing the water pump. It’s been a lot of years, and I forgot the step of putting it in gear up at the controls and on the drive. As soon as I did that it was all good! Got to drive together shifted in and out of neutral forward and reverse with no problems first try! Thanks again!!!

Good video. Hard to get at mechanical pump tho due to the way my Tahoe bilge is shaped, so I may opt to just retrofit an electric pump (keeping stock filter/water sep. on electric pump suction). Confirmed pump was bad by removing fuel filter/water separator, emptying, re-installing, and then cranking engine. Remove and look for fuel in filter, if filter is empty, you have a bad pump (no suction thru filter, with no sucking from tank in order to fill the filter, and self-prime the mechanical fuel pump).

@@Lpass2020 i dont know sire you tell me. i just bought a ram hemi cuz the 5.7 in my tundra went out. hadnt been to a car dealership in 11 years and found out they maked half ton trucks without class 4 hitches. and now they got unibody trucks to go with their unibody "suv's." i know maybe im living under a rock all these years but what with the presidential debates i kinda came out of my shell to see just how far down the rabbit hole people have gone. now they got full size trucks with rice rocket engines and class 4 hitches a 3 liter ego diesel engines ego standing for you have to have an ego to think ur gonna tow 10k pounds in a 3 liter engine. doesnt seem to be a stop to the lunacy anywhere in sight. so then i stumbled across this video which fell inline with the rest of the lunacy videos and saw a man putting a class 4 hitch on a truck but only to use it for a bike rack and having it sit there like a pho hitch for someone to wind up actually towing with it. smh. so now i got to see ur other video and ur winterizing a 5.0 mercruiser ur working on a c4 'vette. im like this dude has all the workings of a true 'mericans mans man putting a bike rack on a truck. heck I got a fuel injected 6.3 mercruiser use to have a 5.0 mercruiser carbureted. I guess i dont know what i am talkin about so I suppose ill go back into my shell and try and see if i may can weather this storm. I just mounted mine yesterday. I had the problem getting the last inch or so too. I got on the ground, used my leg to hold it and help guide it up. All i had to do was keep upward pressure while spinning the propeller clockwise and it eventually popped up the rest of the way. As the shift spline makes contact with its hole you just have to make sure when it starts pushing up the little foot is lined up. I can be done with out clipping or bungee-ing anything. You just have to make sure everything is lining up while spinning the prop counter clockwise. Also be sure the shifter is all the way forward before removal and leave it then until its reinstalled

Good video, especially the tip about clamping the shift into the horseshoe. But why is it necessary for the outdrive to be level when removing or reattaching the lower unit? I've replaced the impeller many times on my 1987 Alpha One. With the the boat on a low trailer with the outdrive level, the lower unit is on the floor while the driveshaft is still inside the upper unit cavity, requiring tilting of the lower unit to fully remove it, as well as positioning it for reinstallation - while working from an awkward position on the floor. With the outdrive up it's far easier to physically handle and maneuver the lower unit from behind, especially if working alone. I also remove the prop nut, then then slide the prop after positioning the gears. It takes only a few minutes and makes it almost impossible to move the prop shaft out of position while reinstalling the lower unit.

Yes it does. If the drive isn't lowered the shift cable won't be in the correct position and the interrupter switch won't engage once everything is reassembled.

No. You can test if you have current getting to the plugs with out pulling them. Unfortunately the only way to test the plugs is to pull them. However if you think it's the plugs you may as well replace them while you have them out.

Dude! I just about lost my composure trying to remount my lower unit. It came off so easy - it's a fairly simple event. I could not figure out what I'd missed. I even compared my old lower to the new, thinking I might have grabbed the wrong generation - although I knew that was nearly impossible given what was sitting in front of me. This little no-nonsense video preserved what's left of my sanity. Thank you!

@Lpass2020
@Lpass2020 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. That one is a pain in the ass. Brass is the worst. Sometimes it's easier to take the whole carb off so you can get a better angle at it. But only do that if you're confident you can get it back on. If not vice grips are the best bet. The good thing is that the worst that will happen is the brass fitting strips. It won't snap because it is so soft.

Any idea how to lower the front
@Lpass2020
@Lpass2020 4 жыл бұрын
I did the front as well. It was extremely difficult. The front suspension is actually a transverse mounted leaf spring. The spring has a rubber mounted pad on each side. After I took the spring out I used and angle grinder to cut the pads down to about 10% of the original size. There are some videos out there about how to do it but they aren't great. Unfortunately I didn't make a video because the whole process took me about 8 hours over the course of a week. Sorry I couldn't help you more.

another video showed a mechanic using an old hacksaw blade bent in a L shape to hold up the push rod while sliding in the new pump seems to be a good trick I'll try it out when my new pump arrives in 2 days he showed it was easy to remove instead of using a screw driver... good info thanks I'm doing the same replacement don't forget the 2nd filter that goes into the front of the carb mine had sand in it can't believe it made it through the fuel/water filter separator the lines were fused onto the carb looked like it wasn't changed in 20 yrs bought the boat 3yrs ago replacing a little each year...I'm debating installing an additional inline fuel filter since the water filter/separator allowed sand to travel through it crazy!

Real Canadian There are no braided hoses approved by the Coast Guard for fuel. You may find it on go fast boats but it’s not the best, even for EFI lines. The hose liner must be ethanol resistant. Some stainless braid may have Teflon liners which is. In marine environments the junction where the stainless braid and the anodized fitting is subject to anodic corrosion and failure.
