When John Grisham’s first book came out, I read he got the idea from another court case that wasn’t his, and he thought “What would I do if this was my child?” I’m sure many parents watching this movie have thought the same thing.

The woman shown in the middle of the speech was the mother of the two rapists the father of the girl killed them during their trial because he knew they would not get a punishment for what they did. His attorney could not explain why her father killed them the judge forbitt him to mention the crime of his victims.because their trial was nit over. So he used it for his last speak.

Imagine she knew self defense and she hog-tied them and left them to torture later and she did and she said because I knew you were bad and she killed them and not ever spoke of it again with no human remorse says nobody forever ever regardless of what you think

Brilliant acting, poignant subject, parallels a sad reality in some parts of society in the not so distant past. What father wouldn’t feel the rage of avenging his daughter should he find himself in such devastating circumstances? Who wouldn’t look inward and reflect upon their own feelings from the father and jurors point of view. Powerful.

Perspective taking is a true power that can move people. We all have our own problems in life and sometimes we hate people in our lives for who they are, what they did, etc. However if you put yourself into their perspective, if you suffer the same situation as those people, you would truly understand them as a person. He was able to make the jury visualize the story and simply asks "What would you have done then if that happened to you?"

One of the best lines in movie history. The power behind that broken speech was indeed, speechless. This mad him and Sam. They were both excellent, telling a story of such trauma and real life actions is the selling point of this film. I would bet my life a lot of people looked at others different after they watched this. I have 3 daughters. And i wouldve wiped out any adult in that family, you all gotta go.

When Jake is on the verge of losing it, it’s because while he’s describing the horror of what happened, he’s imagining it was his own daughter. This was alluded to earlier in the movie.
