I'd love to have a bedroom. We moved into a one bedroom mobile home that needed work 2 years ago. Bed is still in living room. I'd love to actually have a dresser. My clothes are tucked away all over the house. It's worse than living out of a suitcase. The ceiling has been replaced now and we are about to close it up but the floor needs to still be done. Husband has taken a job out of town so there's no hope of having a bedroom in sight. So, don't pitty me everyone, instead go and make your sanctuary! Take your space back for me. ❤

How do you organize undies, bras, and socks in the closet if you're not using a dresser?

Where do you put seasonal clothes then if we don’t have a basement? Ours are under the bed totes.

Hopefully a helpful idea for you❤ In the video about the boys' room, you said that you thought it was small too. Would it be an option to swap your bedroom with the boys? You only sleep in the bedroom (= need only a bed), while the children also use their room during the day.

I have very few books. I used to keep novels but I ended up giving them away as I knew I wouldn’t read them again. I generally read ebooks now. My husband is a pastor who will be retiring in the next couple years-he has LOTS of books at his office. Yikes! Lots to go through at that time.

I decluttered my bedroom a few years ago. It was the best decision to not have any electronics in the room, no books other than my bible, clearing off and placing the dresser in the closet after reducing clothing inventory, clearing off the nightstand of everything but two plants and not storing anything under the bed or anything on the floor. I also reduced my bedding to one set of really good sheets (which I wash and just put back on the bed), a weighted blanket and one comforter. My bedroom is truly a haven when I go to bed now.

I have faux plants in my house. I hate it to take care of real plants. So no, my faux plants stay with me. As regards space: it doesn't matter if you have faux plants or real plants in your room.

About washcloths-I see folding them as futile and find a spot where they fit flat or just tossed in a solid container. How about two baskets that are the woven white plastic ones on top of the bathroom dresser- one for the hand towels and one for wash cloths and then it frees up a drawer in the vanity. I store my washcloths flat in a container on the ledge of my garden tub that has the shower right next to it. Love your practical content

This video hits a bit different after what happened in Haiti recently. But, I’m so proud of you and your family for your charitable work and encouraging others to do the same. I love your suggestion to get 15 to 24-year-olds out to do service. I did a huge amount of service at that age, and it set me up well for life.

Great video and very timely. We have had to move stuff out of our room to have new windows fitted. It means that I can be deliberate about what I put back. I haven't quite hushed the room, but I am getting a similar feeling and really liking the peace. Thanks Dawn for your awesome videos, never judgemental, always helpful.

I'd like to point out though that pots & pans thing depends on a culture and household. IE we as family of 3 use about 8 pans and about 4 skillets and I'll explain why - that is because we cook a few dishes for a week ahead (soup and one main dish at least, sometimes more) and keep them in the pots in the fridge (and me and my family eat different food - i cook vegetarian for myself and meat based for them. We don't wanna buy tupperware in such amounts or sizes regardless of if it's plastic or glass. We find it inconvenient. And on top of those pans staying inside the fridge during the week (so at least 4-5 pans at once there) we cook some meals daily fresh too which is also separate for me and family :) at times we are even lacking a pot and have to empty one in the fridge to a container lol 😁 when I cook often times all burners are busy (some vegetables or pasta is boiling, some sauce is simmering, something precooked might be heating up (i prefer gas over microwave) and probably some crepes are being cooked at the same time too😅😅 so it kinda depends and there is no one right way fit all. For those wondering I'd say don't be to harsh on yourself and consider circumstances and if you're anything like me - count how many items you really are gonna utilise at once😊😊

In retrospect, I wish my parents would have rotated our household chores when we were kids. I was on (manual) dishwashing duty for years, and to this day I despise washing dishes by hand because I got so sick of it. lol

You said to put the phone down two hours before bedtime, and here I am at 2 am lying in bed watching this. 🫣🫢 That being said, this video has helped me to finally decide to say goodbye to a tea set that I've had on furniture near my bed. I never use it; it's adorable and I have had fanciful ideas of using it someday, but it's only been used once in the last 10 years. I think I'll sell it. Turning my phone off now😉😴😴😴.

Here on the west coast we have neighborhood "little libraries." They are mini book "houses" where people can leave books and take books. The one a mile or so down the road is actually a shelter similar to a school bus stop, but most are like oversized birdhouses on a post. I assumed these were pretty much everywhere in this country, or the lower 48 at least.

I just recently had an ah-ha moment when I realized I wanted only the books on my bookshelf that made me feel good just by them sitting there! I got rid of EVERY book that created “fomo” or guilt. I kept books that just made me happy to see them…Even if I never read it again, as long as seeing it add me feel GOOD to look at it (like looking at art or flowers). So now when I walk into my living room & see that shelf, I just smile. Book & reading material FOMO is no joke! It is worth my joy to remove every single item that didn’t make me feel happy to see it.

I live full time in a bus converted to a tiny house. The best things that helped me downsize was to move into a studio apartment 10 months before I moved into the bus. I went so far as to tape out my future living space on the floor of the apartment sounds I really understood how much more I had to declutter. The move was sort of a happy accident, but it really did help.

This is one of the best videos relating to decluttering that I have ever seen. Mother Theresa once said, “to live simply so that others may simply live”. One of my sons recently came back from a missions trip and had the same experience of seeing how others live verses how we live. Life changing. Thank you Dawn for this reminder. God bless.
