Hey mate , couple of questions.. 1) how many times oiling is required if i dont play regularly.. 2) how and where to store the bat ??
@BatandBallCricket
@BatandBallCricket 20 күн бұрын
Each bat is slightly different. If you live in humid conditions, you’ll need to oil less frequently. I generally recommend a light oil every 3mths if you’re not using it regularly. Again, storage is a bit dependant on humidity where you live. Storing your bat or bats horizontally is best. Most say without bat covers, but I’ve got a cricket mate who stores his in a bat cover all the time.

what sander machine did you use to sand the bat

At this point I was using a Ryobi 125mm random orbital sander. I’m currently using a Makita 125mm random orbital sander for finer sanding and a Bosch 150mm sander for course sand.

Best to seek out a bat repairer near you mate. Most repairers stock their own handles. If you haven't replaced a handle before, I highly recommend you don't give it a go yourself. Get it done by some one.

Do you mean the polishing compound at about the 7:45 min mark? This is a polishing compound from Josco called SS Polishing Compound (White). Use mostly for high gloss finishes on aluminium and aluminium alloys... Puts a pretty high gloss finishes on cricket bats too. Here's a link to that product. www.josco.com.au/product/josco-ss-polishing-compound-white/ I've moved onto a jewellers polishing compound now which is pretty similar.

You can. You'll find if you haven't got rid of the sticky residue from the protective facing or stickers will clog up pretty quickly. I did it by hand for years before moving to power tools.

Hiya mate. Love your videos and think you do a great job on repairs and refurbishment. I have started doing all the bats for players at my club, in Derby , England for free (ok, maybe a few beer tokens !). I'm struggling a bit to get a really good finish. I mostly use a detail sander at 120/240 as people want to keep the stickers, I buff with a makita 18v orbital sander with buffing disc and white compound. I think the sander and buffer are underpowered to get the best finish. I also hand sand with 320 / 400 or 600 paper and still can't get the new bat finish. Thinking of buying a mains sander and bench polisher ( can all bench grinders be converted to polishers?. All advice greatly received....keep posting the fab content
@BatandBallCricket
@BatandBallCricket 10 ай бұрын
Hi mate. Sorry I missed this comment when you originally made it, and have just seen it replying to another comment. Pretty much any bench grinder can be converted. But your smaller bench grinders, will have a similar situation being underpowered. All white compounds are also not made equal. Try and find a better quality white compound. The stuff I currently use I got from a jewellery supplies. Gives a good hardwearing finish with a good shine.

How did u remove the handle and cut the handle in same size..?
@BatandBallCricket
@BatandBallCricket Жыл бұрын
If I've understood you correctly, most of the process can be seen in this video from 1.05 to about 2.10. Basically, I measure the full length of the bat. Cut out the handle to the existing V. Then I mark the newly cut V and measure the difference. That's the handle length. I then cut the new handle to length and cut the splice on the new handle. Usually accurate to a couple of millimetres. Hope this helps.

Hi @BatandBallCricket In the latest version 350 NotOut FF, Can I convert all steel spikes to Asics plastic ones to use them on Hard Synthetic grass pitch? Is there any cons of using conversion plastic spikes on any steel spiked shoes? As I see the best shoes are made as a steel spiked first.
@BatandBallCricket
@BatandBallCricket Жыл бұрын
@@yogeshjadhav4616 I've not used conversion spikes on synthetic for about 10 years now mate sorry. In the past I found that the conversion spikes were slightly harder than the rubber in shoes. This meant they would slide on synthetic grass instead of gripping.... Not good for a bowler. When I was playing on synthetic, I had a set of spikes for turf and a different set of shoes for when I played on synthetic. The conversion spikes that come standard with the 350 No appear to be much better. Personally if you're never going to use them for playing on turf, I think you'd be better off leaning towards a shoe without spikes/conversions. If you want something with extra stability, you could look online for last years version of something like the GT-1000 Leather and getting them changed to a dimple rubber sole by someone like Custom Cricket Shoes. This will work out about the same price as the 350 NO if you're buying them from Rebel. If it was me, I'd be going for the Asics Gel-Trigger (www.asics.com/au/en-au/gel-trigger-12/p/AOP_S704Y-109.html?width=Standard). Will give better support than the rubber soled cricket shoes and price isn't as expensive as the 350 NO and you remove the hassle of conversion spikes. Hope this helps.

Sorry for my lack of reply mate. I believe I missed this comment when I released the video, and have only just spotted it now. Here are the bat numbers: Bat at 11:35 is 7669 (Bespoke - Elite LE). Bat at 12:20 is 10915 (Bespoke - Elite Plus).

Any suggest on how to buffer the bat? To give it a nice and good shine?
@BatandBallCricket
@BatandBallCricket Жыл бұрын
A lot of hardware stores have smaller buffing kits like the one in this link - www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-8pce-drill-polishing-kit_p6360265 I used a power drill I already had, and this kit for well over a year before moving to a fixed polishing station. I use a stainless steel polishing compound (white), but there is a blue version which is for high gloss. You have to be a bit careful with bats though as this can stain the timber blue in the process.

Any tips for shortening a handle?
@BatandBallCricket
@BatandBallCricket Жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew. Shortening a handle is pretty simple, unless you want to keep the knob at the top of the handle. Couple of tips: 1. Remove the binding from the area you want to cut. Power tools can grip the twine, so take it back so you're just cutting cane. Even with hand tools, you get a better finish taking back the binding. 2. If you're using hand tools, don't just use some random saw you found in the shed. You'll get a much better cut with a reasonable quality saw. A lot of areas around the world now have Men's Sheds, where mostly retired men go to woodwork. These guys tend to be more than willing to help people out, so this could also be an option if you're not up to it yourself, and don't have a local bat repairer.
